Message | In the middle of the night, between the hours of 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM, our nation's oil rigs were brutally attacked by a special stealth bombing campaign by the Zardic government. Hundreds of innocent lives were burned, shot, or ripped to pieces. Let me affirm that I, along with everyone in this nation, mourn for the families of the victims, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have lost a loved one as a result of this barbaric attack on our homeland. I wish to confess that the government was unaware of this and this certainly did come as a surprise to us all. However, three oil rigs remain and they have been repaired and are now fully operational. My concerns now to go the purpose of this war. I wish all of us, both Voronans and those around Terra who are watching, to ask themselves, what are we fighting for? I will deal with the allegations of the Zardic government first and foremost. The first reason, which they have claimed numerous times, for their declaration of war on our nation is because we stated that we would invade their nation. I will resolve this once and for all right now. A fascist, far-right, fringe political party that was disbanded six years ago does not speak for the the other thirty-nine million Voronans. I will repeat, a fascist, far--right, fringe political party that was disbanded six years ago does not speak for the other thirty-nine million Voronans in this country. Let us consider how that would even be a possibility? Here is a nation, obviously with the capacity to send stealth bombers halfway across Terra, that could've easily killed every single person on this island. Why then, do they feel that we are such a threat, a nation they have repeatedly stated was "undeveloped", that they feel that they must build a coalition of nations to combat Voronan "aggression"? Who stands to benefit from this war? Vorona? Or is it Zardugal? The second flimsy reason that the Zardic government, currently controlled by two parties equal in warmongering and imperialistic thought, has trumpeted as a casus belli against Vorona, is that we have taken over their oil rigs. I will be frank. Yes, the Voronan government did take Zardic oil rigs. Last year, our nation took control of sixteen oil rigs that were within our nautical territory as a sovereign nation to use for our own use. Is that really significant to the Zardic government? The sixteen oil rigs that our nation took from Zardugal, which were never authorized to construct and maintain such oil rigs in the first place, were well within our nation's exclusive economic zone. Yet, this leads us to the question: is it worth the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians, and is it worth the solvency of the entire global economy, for sixteen oil rigs? I have promised my nation and my people that Vorona would fight this war to the end. It pains me that some people around Terra see Vorona as the villain. That somehow, our nation of thirty-nine million is a grave threat to Zardugal. Perhaps Zardic diplomacy is greater than I expected it to be. Perhaps their diplomats actually are capable of manipulating their listeners to the extent that they believe that yes, Vorona is the villain. I, however, with many other leaders throughout Terra, know It is common knowledge that Zardugal has a perennial tendency to warmonger and to attempt to conquer every nation it lays its lustful eyes upon. What is to stop the beast that is Zardugal and its obsession with oil. Apparently, there is no force capable of doing that now, since we have currently come to a time where the world now depends on Zardic oil stability. Terra is now at the whim of one nation - the whim of one person. Why must nations not involved at all in this conflict face domestic strife due to fluctuating oil prices, largely the fault of Zardugal? Fine, let us consider what happens if this war were to end in Zardugal's favor. What then? Would Vorona return the sixteen oil rigs that Zardugal has murdered hundreds of innocent lives for? Would that paltry amount, compared to the gargantuan number of rigs it already owns, finally satisfy Zardugal? Will the Zardic politicians who have twisted their hands and words to get what they want then turn their backs to the world, pat each other on the back, and then go home to face a naive population which deems them "heroes"? What then? I will be clear as to why Vorona is in this war. It's very simple. Because Zardugal declared war on Vorona, with the two reasons stated above as the justification for such, I in turn believed it would be beyond immoral to not respond at all. If a nation authorizes legal murder of the people of another, will that other nation not retaliate? Will that other nation not do the same in turn? Does that other nation not love and not care for their friends, family, and community? No, those are not the characteristics of a people. Vorona is an island nation of a community of people. I believed it was necessary for our government to respond. And so I cringe whenever I hear that some leader or another believes we are the aggressors. We are not. I do not know how long this war will end. I originally believed it would be a quick one. I used every opportunity to ensure that bloodshed was the last resort. I believed that Vorona could simply pressure Zardugal to back down. Did I believe that Zardugal would actually kill and destroy for sixteen oil rigs? No. I did not. I was surprised, and even hurt, when Baltusia entered the war on the side of Zardugal, of all nations, simply over the fact that I was angry that their media had implied to the Baltusian people that our government and our nation did not like Baltusia, which is false. It's disappointing that such a prospective alliance fell apart so quickly. It is even more disappointing that very few people see Zardugal for what it actually is. A grand puppeteer, playing with the strings of all the nations of the world. Bringing in one character while putting out the next. Pitting friends against friends and making enemies of us all. My plea to the world is to open their eyes to the monster that Zardugal is. I also will say this to all the people of this nation and all the leaders of the world. If those on the side of Zardugal wish for Vorona to step down, and if that would mean that innocent lives would be saved and homes, hospitals, schools, and other buildings would remain intact for use, then I shall. It is with a heavy heart that I say these words, but I cannot bear to look at the carnage and destruction any longer. I am not a Zard; I cannot smile at the death of my enemies. I am a human. Thank you. |
