Bill: Freedom in the Unions

Details

Submitted by[?]: Free Democratic Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 3812

Description[?]:

"We voted for allowing anyone to strike, but we need to clarify that the unions aren't forced on anyone. Sure, we allow for unions to have more freedom, but they shouldn't have more power. This is a mature act of freedom that is important to the future success of Solentia."

~Ted Johnson, Head Chairman of the LPS

MessageYet again this talk about freedom and at the same time proposing a bill reducing the power of the common man. This would seriously weaken our society's equality.

MessageWe are torn on this measure. We do support Article 1 but are undecided about Article 2 at this point.

Having unions and employers negotiate the daily working hours as well as pay and benefits appears to be the fairest way of managing the economy. This is a major principle of a Social Market Economy that the Reform Option of Solentia supports.

MessageWe have decided to vote in favor of this because restructuring the economy to allow for entrepreneurship is vital for our long-term prosperity.

That said, we remain divided on article 2.

Message"This doesn't take power away from the common man. It gives them more power. Now instead of unions bargaining, local governments can allow individuals to bargain. Localizing such issues is perfect. The first article is a necessity because it gives the common man the right to choose. If he or she doesn't want to be in a trade union, they will not be in a trade union."

MessageWhat you say holds true for highly skilled and experienced employees. Unfortunately the same thing does not hold true for low-skilled workers who will have little to no bargaining power. That's why such areas choose to unionize in the first place, because each individual worker has less bargaining power than a union of many workers.
