we agree with UDHFU.
What is the stance of the Minister of Finance on this?

MessageM. Speaker,

Certainly. We believe a tax cut is necessary purely so these goods are more affordable. These are items that all citizens require to live (such as food, basic clothing etc), and we believe we should lower tax on these goods. According to the national budget, we have a healthy surplus, and the ECA believes a small tax cut in this area would be affordable for the government.

I hope that answers the queries of Tony and Mr. Uyttebroeck.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Reducing sales tax from 25% to 20% will probably result in 6,000,000,000 LOD less revenue. If we're going to cut taxes, we also need to cut spending to avoid going into debt. I wonder what portfolios the opposition wants to cut. Perhaps they should think about this before rushing to support a tax cut. This is nothing but a populist move.

It will result in less revenue, but this will be made up for after the retirement age is raised to 65.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Our revenue is between 106,000,000,000 LOD and 107,000,000,000 LOD at the moment. I would like Carl Lexington to give an estimate of how much he expects revenue to be if the retirement age is raised to 65. If the retirement age is raised, and if the revenue does not go above 107,000,000,000 LOD or close to Carl Lexington's prediction, he would be doing the country a favour by retiring from politics.

MessageM. Speaker,

It really is very simple.

1.) We drop the sales tax rate from 25% to 20%.
2.) We save money from not having to issue superannuation payments until citizens reach the age of 65.
3.) We cut spending in Trade and Industry. It is useless putting as much as 10,000,000,000 LOD into this ministry when we have 0 exports.

These three steps will lead to a stronger economy, and more affordable essential goods for citizens and their families.

The suggestion that I should retire from politics is hilarious coming from the GNRG. How old is your leader now? 100? 150? I think the GNRG need to look at themselves in the mirror.

MessageM. Speaker,

I seems that the minister is concerned that revenue will not exceed 107,000,000,000 LOD. I can give my absolute unconditional assurance to the presidium that if the above 3 steps are put into place, revenue will exceed 107,000,000,000 comfortably.

Kevin Landau knows nothing about the economy. There is so much unnecessary spending in the national budget. It really needs a complete overhaul, but these 3 steps the ECA is proposing will serve our economy well in the meantime.

The GNRG has held the Finance Ministry for far too long, and it shows.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Another party made similar claims almost 2 centuries ago. We have the records of events and economic statistics: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=410175

The other party claimed that we would see a better economy by cutting taxes and cutting spending. We did not see a better economy. Instead, Consumption per capita rose by only 40 LOD while our GDP per capita fell by 200 LOD. When my forefather Benjamin Landau took power soon after, he reversed the nonsensical liberal reforms and brought Lodamun back to being the economic power it was before the reforms. The statistics are all there for MPs to see for themselves.

We will not turn Lodamun's economy into some testing ground for Carl Lexington's dangerous economic experiments. Without raising taxes, no government can get Lodamun's revenue to go above 107,000,000,000 LOD with the current population. If the ECA comes to power as a part of a coalition, and manages to direct the nation's financial policies, I can assure the Presidium that they cannot get the revenue to "exceed 107,000,000,000 LOD comfortably" as Carl Lexington claims - unless there is some change in the population, or unless we have ridiculous tax increases.
