MessageMr. Speaker,

Generally, this bill is about raising the taxes on the poor, and cutting taxes for the rich. Under the current tax scheme, someone doesn't pay 10% until they earn 2,550 LOD. This bill will force all working citizens to pay 10% and more.

Under the current tax scheme, citizens who earn 922 LOD fall into the bracket that pays 3% for income tax. These citizens will pay 15% under the proposed tax scheme, which is 5 times what they currently pay.

The proposed tax scheme was not well thought out. As I predicted, the ECA is not able to get revenue to exceed 107,000,000,000 LOD without ridiculous tax increases - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=439926 - For the poor and working class, this is a ridiculous tax increase. Some citizens have to pay 5 times more in tax, just so that the ECA's wealthy friends can get a 10% tax cut.

No sensible Member of the Presidium will vote in favour of this dangerous bill.

MessageM. Speaker,

The minister is quite wrong. This bill is not about raising the tax percentage. It's about creating more efficient and less confusing tax brackets. Currently there are 50 tax brackets. That's right, 50. Currently, less than 300 LOD separates each bracket. This is ridiculous and unnecessary. This bill makes for a more efficient and productive tax system for everyone.

MessageMr. Speaker,

What exactly are we wrong about? Carl Lexington says that this bill is not about raising the tax percentage, but citizens who earn 922 LOD under the current system pay only 3% tax. In Lexington's proposal, they will have to pay 5 times what they currently pay.

The current tax system is not complex. every bracket is exactly 255 LOD apart. The tax bracket increases and the tax percentage increases are consistent. For every 255 LOD, there is 1% tax.
