Bill: Military Service Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Libertarian Citizens
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 3915
Description[?]:
It is a shame for such a free nation as Beluzia to force her citizens to serve in the military upon completion of their education. This goes against individual freedom. Libertarian Citizens believe Beluzians should be free to choose how to serve their country beyond compulsory military service or civilian national service. Could they not, perhaps, serve their nation better by focusing on their studies, by building big business that will help the economy, by developing their skills in the profession of their choice and make of Beluzia a more unique, more recognised, more diverse place? A Beluzia of freer and stronger citizens is a freer and stronger Beluzia, one that has nothing to fear from the outside! We believe there should be no mandatory military service, and could compromise for a limited national service in order to reinforce that feeling of belonging to a nation, of knitting a society together, although we still believe each individual should choose freely how to "serve" the nation. |

Message | We support this bill. While we do not see this as a civil liberty issue, the UPP strongly believe that we need professional people in our military, citizens that want to serve our nation, not because they have to be there. |

Message | Before we state our position we would like to clarify that the legislation currently on the books does make an exemption for education, by saying that "all adults upon completion of schooling..." and we only mention it because it seems like a concern for the Libertarian Citizens. Our official position is that some sort of service should be endorsed. Civilian national services has shows its merits as it creates a sense of civic pride and endorses a closer knit national identity. We pose to the LC a compromise, that we only mandate civilian service, as it is paid, usually in the field of study of the person, and has the obvious benefits mentioned previously. We await the LC's response and afterward we will declare an official position on the legislation. |

Message | Libertarian Citizens could compromise to some sort of national service, but on that should be chosen by each individual upon completion of their education. We have changed the description accordingly. We still stand by the abolition of the national military service. We believe a professional military service will protect the nation better. Also, we have a population that is numerous enough; we don't have to force our citizens into the army. There will be more than enough citizens who will choose to serve in the military as their career choice. |

Random fact: In order for a Cabinet bill to pass, more than half of the legislature must vote for it and all of the parties included in the proposed Cabinet must support it. If your nation has a Head of State who is also the Head of Government, then the party controlling this character must also vote for the bill, since the Head of Government is also a member of the Cabinet. If any of these requirements are not met, the bill will not pass. |
