Bill: Phase-out of Corporate Tax: Part 1
Details
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 3922
Description[?]:
Thoouts Aksiomatikos, Semayawi promised in the election campaign to phase out the original 'tax on job creation'. It will be carried out over the next ten years. The first stage is to halve the tax by 3926 and then abolish it by 3931. This will vastly improve Cobura's international competitiveness and domestic re-investment and leave her as one of only eight countries with no corporate taxes. Gebre Abraha Grand Vizier |

Message | Thoouts Aksiomatikos, Since the Vizier failed to do so, I will give the Assembly a rundown of all the countries with a 0% corporate tax rate and see if we want to emulate their economic policies. I'm fully aware that I will likely never be on a party list again after I'm finished for insulting 6 countries, one of which is a world power that the KE discourages insulting. So be it, the truth must be heard: Ibutho: 0% corporate tax rate. Sounds great too! Oh, no, it's run by actual "rabid communists" who tax everyone at a 99% rate. Not to mention all industries are fully owned by the state, so why tax yourself? That part actually sounds kind of familiar when we remember who Semayawi's largest backer is... Solentia: They can afford to get away with having no corporate tax because of a 50% flat tax, which doesn't sound much at all like the government's recommended policy. Indrala: 0% corporate tax rate, a 25% flat tax, and a world military power. Sounds great! Nevermind the reason they are a military power is due to military spending being one third of their entire budget, almost certainly to the detriment of domestic living. They also enjoy drawing and quartering Hosian preachers of competing ideologies for fun, but that's not really here nor there. Likatonia: Spends half their budget on military spending, completely neglecting everything else. Great. Mordusia: Spends over half of their budget on their military, so you can guess what their domestic situation looks like. Likatonia 2.0 Davostag: Filled with Satanists and ruled by a repressive government. No thank you. Jelbania: Not exactly known for leading the world in business or industry, but not as bad as a lot of these places. Does correlation equal causation? No. Is having no corporate income tax correlated to your country being completely and utterly ass-backwards? Yes. It's not as if any of these countries are great neoliberal paradises of the free market. I believe that with a few exceptions, such as Ibutho and Solentia, we can examine the ideologies of the governments that introduced these taxation policies and see that they're quite similar to our current ruling party's platform. This is where we are headed. In conclusion, I'm not sure being part of an obviously elite group such as this should be celebrated. I will undermine my argument slightly and note that Dorvik, with a 2% corporate tax rate, is actually well developed, but they appear to be the exception, not the rule, and obviously two is not quite equal to zero. Rētōr Sahmelo KE Backbencher OOC: This was basically a troll post, but I thought it was funny. |

Message | OOC: Ha,ha that was something alright Thoouts Aksiomatikos, The Hon. Member's statement miss the point. Semayawi's vision of the Coburan economy is not based on what some of the zero percent countries have. Our is of a low tax, low spending regime, sensitive to the needs of business and consumers. We also fully embrace civil rights and will not be imitating some of the things mentioned here anytime soon. We reject the idea/insinuation that low public spending translate to a poorer standard of life. Tesfaye Bishaw Vizier of Finance |

Random fact: Players who consent to a particular role-play by acknowledging it in their own role-play cannot then disown it or withdraw their consent from it. For example, if player A role-plays the assassination of player B's character, and player B then acknowledges the assassination in a news post, but then backtracks and insists the assassination did not happen, then he will be required under the rules to accept the validity of the assassination role-play. |
