Message | Mr. Speaker, Care to explain why identity cards are immoral? You need a passport to travel by air or a drivers license to drive. An identity card is reasonable to be a citizen. |

Message | Mr Speaker, I'd like to first put forward my case. To start off with there is NO evidence that it reduces crime or the likeliness of terrorism. Another reason is it opens up the opportunity for identity fraud. In other countries it is known to increase benefit fraud. And if you think it decreases illegal immigration, it doesn't. In fact asylum seekers already carry identity documents. Although there is no evidence to support this - ID cards have likely heightened the inequalities that have been seen with ethnically biased stop and search practices. Those from minority ethnic groups would be more likely to be stopped and asked to produce an ID card, further damaging race relations. They are also expensive and this money could be used in other areas such as education which desperately needs it. OOC: Sorry I worded it wrong NP, I'll change it. Thank you Cracov Leader of the DUP |
