Message | Marriage isn't a "religious matter". It is a contract between two consenting adults, and for it to have legitamacy it must have the force of government backing it up. Upholding contractual agreements is a valid function of a proper government. |

Message | Who determines the legatimacy of people's relationships then? How will this affect health care, tax relief and so on? |

Message | It will cut out the red tape and unneccesary govt. interferance. The govt.s job is not to enforce contracts, particularly not religious ones. I should think our Godless Randian friend here would agree... |

Message | Actually, he stated in another bill's debate that the purpose of government is to ensure that contracts are followed. |

Message | Thats nonsensical. What freedom is there in a contract? What if I selfishly deny the authority of either contracts or of govt? |

Message | And you still haven't answered what you think religion has to do with marriage? A person doesn't have to be religous or involve himself in religion in any way to get married. |
