| We are pleased that the country has a minimum wage to gurantee justice for a common worker, however we fear that current policy is overdoing it, we understand the well meaning motives behind the decision that the minimum wage should be set at a level that a full time worker on it can support a family of four without falling under the poverty line. Escpecially after the unjust decision to abolish the minimum wage during that time. But consider the position of an employer, paying for one worker means covering for 4, 2 means 8 and large industries which require hundreds of workers would pay fourfold the amount. encourgiing them to use less workers and thus causing unemployment and even reduced industrial capacity. Not that we are against helping the worker support a family, It is also that some workers who do not support famillies find themselves very rich from this policy. We suggest a change in the policy, but suggest a comprimise clause: Workers who do support a family which has three to five members unsuitable for full-time work (Children or invalids) are free to petition their employers for a raise to support their family and seek the aid of their union to assist them in any legal way possible, including striking. |
