Bill: Refugee Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Hosian Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 3995

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

In our very own time we face an unprecedented humanitarian crisis; a crisis that has averted our own Holy Luthori Empire, but has plagued countless other nations and our brothers and sisters of the human race who inhabit them.

The plague of which I speak is war. A war so violent and heinous that it shakes to the very core, the men and women, who take up arms for their nations and displaces countless who are in their bloody path to victory.

We have not taken sides in this war and that is largely for the better of our own nation. However, we have a moral imperative, nay a solemn duty as a prosperous nation to help those who have been displaced by this war and give them a chance to start anew.

I know this will be an unpopular bill. Many parties will complain that 'we need to take care of our own,' but friends and colleagues, I urge you to think beyond borders, nationalities, and political allegiances, and vote to help those who have not been helped. Vote to help those who have been forgotten. Vote to help those who have so much to offer our world, but have had that taken away from them because of senseless violence.

Let us stand together as a House and as a Nation, and welcome with open arms our brothers and sisters who have experienced indescribable tragedy to show the world that our Empire does not back down from any crisis, especially those which affect the most vulnerable individuals of Terra!

MessageMr. Speaker,

We will have to think about this proposal long and hard. For it is our understanding that the current crisis gripping Terra would be classified under extreme circumstances for refugees fleeing the conflict. While this Empire has always sought to welcome with open arms those that desire to join its ranks as Honorary Luthorians, and someday as possible Luthorians, we must be careful not to overreact to the horrors that are now only possible because our ancestors failed to preserve the Empire; a disaster that ended "Pax Luthoria" and has caused the current anarchy we see today. While the "Zoo Alliance" is the first of many steps to restore order, there are many more necessary and required if we are to right the wrongs of our ancestors and restore order to Terra. We feel for our Hosian partners on this matter, and do lean towards support, however, until we have thoroughly debated this topic we will hold our votes.

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We want people to come into our country but they have to come into our country legally and they have to adhere to Luthorian cultural standards. I will not stand by while we open our borders to a flood of people who will no doubt be a drain on the system. The current refugee laws are sufficient, and those who are in dire need are already allowed in. By loosening the laws there will be migrants who will selfishly take advantage of our open border. And that`s simply unacceptable.

I yield.

MessageNathaniel Jones, in a statement from PLM Headquarters in Fort Williams, urged the ruling parties to exercise extreme caution when dealing with this sensitive process. "Refugee relocation is a slippery slope, and while I sympathize with the plight of the refugees, we as a nation must remain vigilant."

This truly is a sad day. Mark my words.. We will regret this. Thousands of people will come in without proper papers and many of them with no need for protection even more ghettos and possible terrorists. We oppose this and think that we should increase foreign aid instead. Help more there rather than a few here

Excellent point about foreign aid, we nearly forgot to propose that bill in conjunction with this one!
