Voting deadline: April 4038

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

Every single party here was coerced into signing all of our death warrants by agreeing to bring back the Privy Council. (Please Read: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=465853) According to the constitution the Privy Council, which consists of unelected members of the elite noble class have full power to override any decision made here in Parliament.

The Privy Council has full authority to disregard our decisions and we must recognise that this is completely undemocratic. Furthermore, the Privy Council has the power to name anyone an Enemy of the Crown and strip them of their rights. Also they can can carry out military actions without a declaration of war being passed here in the Diet. Basically any of the decisions made in the Imperial Diet are essentially meaningless like the possible intervention in Beiteynu. The Privy Council decides either way and will disregard the decision of the ruling cabinet and the Imperial Diet.

The integrity of the Imperial Diet must be restored and the cabinet must be restored its authority to properly govern Luthori. This bill will need a supermajority (2/3s) to pass.

So, we propose a temporary suspension of the Privy Council. The full authority to responsibly govern will be once again awarded to the cabinet. During this suspension the Privy Council will then be reformed through debate in the Imperial Diet.

MessageMr Speaker,

Where does it say the Privy Council is filled only with nobles? The Emperor Council derives its power from the Emperor, which this body has empowered. The national government and the Imperial government are two separate governments that share overlapping bodies and institutions. The cabinet runs the national, while the Privy Council runs the Imperial. Thus lacks the two thirds necessary to pass and is only causing chaos where there need be none.

All Hail Luthori!!!

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

It's not a written rule that nobles have to fill the positions of the Privy Council, but it's obvious that the Emperor picks his favourites.

The Privy Council handles Imperial matters? Those matters consist of military, foreign affairs, etc...That's exactly why it's undemocratic, so you're only proving my point. The cabinet and the Imperial Diet should have say on these matters not an unelected council consisting of the Emperor's cronies.

Has the noble class gone mad to even dare challenge the elected members of the Diet?

OOC: "Privy Councillors are almost exclusively members of the High Nobility since the Emperor's support and power largely depends on the extremely powerful aristocracy with the whole system being somewhat of an unwritten agreement." From the WIKI.

MessageOOC: I can guarantee that the Emperor is a full-blood professional and chooses people from every group in society: academics, entrepreneurs, clergy, teachers, doctors and blue-collar workers as well as nobles. This is not medieval Britain but a liberal democracy with a strong Emperor. That is something else.

MessageOOC: True, but remember that anyone can have a title of nobility, and that chances are those who are appointed to the cabinet are given titles. The Viceroy, and the Imperial Chancellor are both on it as well.

IC: Mr. Speaker,

The main ministries are run by the cabinet, they are intertwined systems. Why not admit the fact Mr. Price, that all you desire is power, not democracy. The nobility is not taking power from this body, there are many members of this body that are members of the nobility. In multiple parties none the less. The Diet has a role, and so does the Privy Council. The Diet controls the budget, the item that makes it possible for this body to function. The mere fact the Privy Council had the Imperial Foreign Minister seek a recommendation from this body regarding the current crisis in Yishelem prove that they value the thoughts of this chamber.

Mr Price, this is not about democracy, but you feeling slighted because you desire power. We supported Mr. Price for his work in restoring this Empire, we hope this bout of insanity ends soon.

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

There needs to be a balance between the nobility and Parliament. One cannot be stronger than the other, but under the current guidelines the Privy Council has usurped the legal authority of the Imperial Diet. I support the noble class, however the Nationals going back to the days of the Reform Party has always been against the growing political influence of the noble class. That's been in our manifesto since day one!

We seek a balance and for that balance to be achieved these reasonable measures must be taken. The Privy Council will of course return from suspension once the members of this Diet reform it. Only then will a true balance be achieved.

I yield.

Malcolm Price

MessageMr. Speaker,

Since we are the party of reason it seems in the debacle, we will propose a solution that we believe will end worries about the powers of the council. This bill will not pass, as it will fail to achieve the 2/3rds. However, we are not blind to some of the concerns you have expressed, no matter how wrong or misguided their foundations may be.

Better to reform through the institution than to restore it. I am sure the Council has been watching this disaster Price has caused within the Diet and would be willing to advise the Emperor on ways to reform, without the destructive and unproductive behavior of Mr. Price.

I yield.

MessageThe Liberals admonish any ways or instruments that wishes to undemocratize the country. Therefore, we support, not only the suspension, but the abolition of such Council in order to bring back the powers from the Crown and the State to the People.

Random fact: It usually takes up to an hour for election results to generate. During this time, the "Next Election" date is put forward a month, which is confusing. Do not worry! In a short time, the election result will generate and the "Next Election" date will then correct itself.
