Message | We should be able to torture if it could mean we save the lives of many people. We will be voting for this. |
Date | 01:27:42, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Maroon Party | To | Debating the Torture |
Message | We will be voting against this, for the reasons of argument laid down in the original bill to abolish torture. In a matter as grave as torture, where the possibly innocent individual can be scarred for life (or even if he is guilty, the scars will remain long after he has served his sentence, an effect almost unique to torture), the ends cannot justify the means. |
Date | 15:35:27, May 24, 2005 CET | From | United Territorial Party | To | Debating the Torture |
Message | Let's hope common sense will prevail this time unlike on my previous bill for the same change which was better argued. |
Date | 22:47:17, May 28, 2005 CET | From | Maroon Party | To | Debating the Torture |
Message | Moreover, this new wording is far too vague. What is a "grave situation"? Is a terrorist attack a grave situation? Is the police needing to find a bank robber's accomplice faster a "grave situation"? What about an officer who wants to take his lunch break and would appreciate teh extra few minutes? |

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI). |
Random quote: "The United States is in no sense founded upon the Christian doctrine." - George Washington |
