Bill: OOC/Party RP: 4051 BPDP Leadership and Joint Leadership Primary

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unsubmissive Beluzian Workers Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 4066

Description[?]:

OOC: Everything here starts in January 4051, although its now March.

IC: It is the New Year and although many other nations are celebrating, we're not. Why? Because of internal conflict within the SLP and the rise of racism and bigotry within the BPDP, SLP and the BLFP. 7 candidates have declared for the Party Leadership and they include, Francis Romanovic (former President of Beluzia and Party Leader), Thomas Ueli (Senator of the Federal Senate and founder of the Conservative Movement for Beluzia), Julius Furgenster (current PM), Jomas Tomanovic (Private Secretary to the Party Leader, and Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs), Gabriel Florea [former Senator of the Federal Senate (suspended due to fascist views) and founder of the Anti-Romanovic movement], Janus Hartmann (Minister of Defence, Iliathar BPDP Leader and Chief Whip) and Lord Henry (Senator of the Federal Senate and the founder of the Anti-Immigration Alliance). There are also speculations of current Speaker of the Federal Senate, Dr Jean-Marie Vallier running for the position, but she has not made any announcement relating to this, so the BPDP is unsure at the moment. This leadership election was announced due to the surge of bigotry within all major parties of Beluzia and also because of many conservatives calling for change within their own respective parties. The progressive wing of the BPDP called for an end to the bigotry within the SLP and they also appealed to BPDP supporters to choose wisely for their next Party Leader. But the conservative wing of the BPDP condemned the progressives of the BPDP, saying that they were "traitors of the state" and were spreading violence because of their "angry, childish attacks on the Beluzian people". In what seems to be the first highly contested race and the first one to be decided by voters (previous ones were decided by the Senators themselves), there is uncertainty about the future of Beluzian politics and the direction of the BPDP. Will it stay progressive or will it take a more ultra-conservative stance?

MessageIn response to Romanovic's comments, Sen. Aston has responded that her knowledge should not be questioned by "a filthy immigrant whose political position in Beluzia is apparently so threatened by any actual change to the status quo that he feels the need to make personal attacks on innocent politicians like herself and Hammond". She went on to explain that, while Antoni is not the current joint party leader, he will be "once the silent majority of Beluzia gets their rightful vote and rightful voice".

MessageIn response to Astons comments, Romanovic slammed Senator Aston, saying that she had no decency by calling him an "immigrant". He responded: "Having a foreign sounding surname does not make me an immigrant. I came from Davostag, where I was born and the culture was very diverse, but my father was not Tokundian. We are Luthoris and we are proud to be part of this peace loving culture. Think about this, Senator. If your family had a foreign sounding relative, would you call him/her an immigrant and kick him/her out of the family. If you wish to do that, you're a no brainer and I hope that you rot in hell."

MessageIn a recent rally, Aston has advocated the immedite deportation of any illegal immigrants, and specifically referenced Ms. Fujimoto-Geary, and Romanovic. She claimed that "the two of them seem so willing to criticize reasonable plans to secure our borders, and Romanovic even admits that he's not even from Beluzia! He's from Davostag, and he doesn't even claim to be Beluzian! He claims he's a Luthori. With their hateful remarks about reasonable, God-fearing Beluzians, you'd think they have something to hide about when they came to Beluzia". She went on to claim that God had appeared to her "in a dream, and told me to run. I am not running for myself, or for the BLFP, but for God's will".

MessageUpon Sen. Aston's comments, Prof. Geary quickly stepped off the campaign trail to issue an apology statement to Romanovic, stating that he "would like to, on behalf of the BLFP, apologize for the childish, petty attacks by Aston. She does not represent the BLFP, and we outright condemn her". He went on to call her candidacy "disgusting, and a complete disgrace to Beluzian politics", before officially announcing that the BLFP was actively backing her primary opponent for her seat in the Federal Senate.

Romanovic went on to back Senator Aston's primary opponent for her seat, hoping that her challenger is a high-profile politician that advocates for progressive values. When asked about the leadership race, he said: "I have to admit that this challenge is quite difficult to overcome. The conservative wing is gaining on us and we're trying to do everything we can to stop their momentum. If somehow they manage to defeat me in the first primary, I will resign as party leader".

MessageWe have some highlights coming in from the first debate in Fort Bailon. Things were heated from Ueli's homophobic and xenophobic statement "Our nation is being taken over by the LGBT and filthy immigrants that live in sewers. Our jobs are being taken over by these filthy scum and our nation has fallen into hard times. We need to close all borders and build a big wall on the borders of neighbouring nations and have them pay for it. If that fails to work, we need to deport all these filthy people, including Mr Romanovic over here. He claims he is a Luthorian, but he is not. He is from Davostag, a cultural open nation, which I hate because of its racial diversity. Execute all gays and immigrants and have their heads chopped off and stamped on!" Ueli received boos from the crowd over his extremist opening statement and various objects were thrown on stage. Romanovic opened up with "we are facing a threat in the form of homophobia, xenophobia and anti-Yeudish movements within the conservative movement of our party and within the various conservatives in the audience. Shame on you for betraying the party and your nation. We encourage people to have common sense and to choose from right or wrong. Do you want an extremist fascist as your leader or me, a strong progressive voice as your leader and as your President?".

The aging Romanovic received several cheers and boos in the audience from that. Romanovic did not continue and rampage, and instead gave the floor to PM Furgenster. He stated that "This rise of racism and bigotry must stop. These disgraceful people must be executed. We are a united nation and we have seen worse before this. All of you must have some recollection of the "so called progressives", Party of Liberty, National Front and the BNFU. They ruined Beluzia with their conservative policies. It is only after the disbandment of these parties that Beluzia was put back on track. You want better leadership, I'll give it to you. I applause President Romanovic's efforts in reforming our party and making it have a more progressive voice. But Romanovic's leadership choices has resulted in all this happening and we condemn his inept leadership. If he had reviewed the credentials of each Senator, our party would still be in the hands of the progressive wing and not the ultra-conservative wing. We are here to talk about issues and not to argue. I hope that we can all agree on that and keep this debate civil". Hartmann had a similar statement, saying "where has the sense of decency gone in the BPDP". The other conservative candidates criticised Romanovic's leadership choices and mostly gave out their extremist stances on immigrants. But Mr Jomas Tomanovic had a more moderate message, praising Romanovic's leadership and saying that a certain amount of immigrants must be allowed. That received a lot of boos from the crowd and many called him "a fake conservative".

The first question went to Ueli on immigration. The question was "What will you do with immigrants, both legal and illegal in this nation?". He responded: "What we need is to have a deportation force set in place so that a person with a foreign name, foreign accent and a different skin color will be turned away immediately. We cannot afford to have terrorists coming in and causing terrorist attacks like the one in 4043. We also need to build a large wall that restricts any access to emigrants and immigrants from other nations as to prevent them from taking our jobs away from the rich. We cannot have mass migration. If we carry on like this we.." Ueli was continuing with his sentence until Romanovic interrupted with the question "Aren't you a foreigner?" "I am a Luthorian through and through. My surname is Dundorfian, but I have denounced my culture for being moderates on immigration" leading to him to respond with "Oh pur-lease. Stop brainwashing people with your false claims of being a Luthorian. Your family tree states that you have Dundorfian. Go back to Dundorf and pledge alliance to the fascist groups and the Satanic religion". This led to five minutes of insults, including "son of Satan" and "filthy false Luthorian". Furgenster and Hartmann got involved, yelling at the two candidates to "be civil in front of the numerous children watching the debate". Furgenster proceeded to say "immigration helps our economy and enhances our society and this gives us more cultural diversity." Ueli responded with his normal "stealing of jobs" and "immigrants causing terrorist attacks" argument.

The debate moved on to free trade, where Ueli and Florea denounced the current policy of not taxing imports, saying that it was "a disgrace to the small corporations providing jobs for Beluzia". Romanovic, Furgenster and Tomanovic called for a continuation to the current policy, saying that it was best if there was more foreign competition, saying that it would allow for more jobs to be created. Ueli responded: "Oh pur-lease, your big business policy won't work. You will let filthy foreigners come in to steal our jobs". That received a lot of boos, mostly from the progressives and from the conservatives of the party, as the current policy had a lot of support. The rest wanted to carry on with the same policy, saying that it would increase jobs growth and lower unemployment, with Hartmann calling for a more progressive solution to free trade.

Things got even worse when questions were asked about the military. Ueli said: "We need to strengthen our military. There are so many extremist groups around the world that are corrupting the hearts and brains of Terra's citizens. We need more military spending to exterminate all these extremist groups and the illegal immigrants in each nation. The past 20 years saw the armed forces go from pathetic to dysfunctional. Without them, nations around Terra have been polluted by disgusting foreigners. So, we need to buildup our ar..." Once again, Romanovic interrupted, calling him an "imperialist that wants to destroy our foreign relations by exterminating immigrants and taking over all of Terra". Ueli called him a "peace loving shkije (Tokundian foreigner), which caused chants of "racist", "filthy vermin", "fascist". Furgenster criticised both Romanovic and Ueli, calling them "filthy pigs of disgrace", which caused Romanovic to shout: "Shame on you, Furgenster!" Hartmann then interrupted, saying "Where is the time for the rest of us? We have high poll numbers, but we feel that we are being oppressed by not getting our messages through to members of the BPDP" Hartmann said "I feel that we need to remove funding for Defense completely and putting it into important programs such as Education and Culture, Health and Foreign Affairs so that Beluzians will have a better future."

The rest of the debate saw Romanovic, Furgenster, Ueli duel while other prominent members of the BPDP desperately tried to speak. Polls on who won the debate put Romanovic with a small lead of 3% over Ueli, with Furgenster being put third, leading Hartmann with a 4% lead, while Tomanovic, Lord Henry and Florea were left with 7%, 6% and 6% respectively, a bad showing for them. This was not the debate that Romanovic wanted and he called his performance "lacklustre", saying that he needed to rethink his debate strategy.

MessageDr Jomas Tomanovic today, in a press conference, accompanied with President Romanovic, announced that he was withdrawing from the leadership race and endorsing Romanovic for the leadership, saying that: "Although we might have different opinions on issues, I will not stand by and let an ultra-conservative take over the party. I ask my supporters to have some common sense and to reelect President Romanovic for a more progressive voice to the party"

President Romanovic said: "I welcome Jomas Tomanovic's withdrawal from the leadership race and I welcome his disenfranchised supporters who are fed up with this infighting within the BPDP and other progressive parties. I pledge that I will do everything that I can to gain your support to defeat the ultra-conservatives"

In a rally today, Thomas Ueli slammed Jomas Tomanovic, saying that he had betrayed the conservative wing of the BPDP by endorsing the "corrupt" Romanovic and called him a "filthy Tokundian". He pledged that he would do anything in his power to gain support from unhappy centrists to defeat President Romanovic in the leadership race.

MessageToday, the BPDP announced the results of an opinion poll taken in Bailon one day before the Bailon Primary. The results show a surprising lead for President Romanovic and if this momentum carries on, it might be possible that President Romanovic would get a pluraity of the delegate votes in April's convention.

MessageWhile many higher-ranking members of the BLFP are extremely busy with their own primary season, a few senators have made an endorsement to Hartman, claiming that "while Romanovic is a fine and upstanding leader, who has done his party well, we feel that we agree more with Hartmann's positions". Many senators have stated that they do not want to officially endorse any member, claiming that "there are many qualified candidates in the BPDP field", choosing instead to create the Anti-Ueli Coalition. Their reasoning behind this is that, "since there are so many qualified candidates, we cannot let Ueli's divisive and uninformed views on immigration represent anyone. Isn't have one Hammond running enough?"

MessageOOC: I have made an election result map: http://i.imgur.com/1lSfX0j.jpg

IC: We have a key race alert to announce. With 100% of the votes counted, we can project that President Romanovic has won the Bailon Primary with 35% of the votes, compared to 18% for PM Furgenster. Tonight, the people of Bailon were shocked, saying that they did not expect Mr Ueli to be placed fourth, as opinion polls taken before the primary had shown that Ueli would be placed second.

Tonight's results are a disaster for Mr Ueli, who was the perceived favourite to defeat President Romanovic in the Bailon primaries. He won 16% of the vote and only won two districts, which had strong conservative tendencies and a large amount of rich people. The big winners in tonight's primaries were President Romanovic, PM Furgenster and Janus Hartmann, managing to achieve a high vote share, kicking out the conservatives.

When the top three candidates were asked about the days ahead, they all refused to comment and said that they would be back on the campaign trail as soon as possible.
