Description[?]:
Madam Speaker, For years Beluzia's military has been run on a shoestring. Thanks to our latest budget (see http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=476526 ) we now have the resources to begin the desperately-needed modernisation process. However, this is a massive task, and we do not have all of the expertise and the equipment that we require. We have significantly expanded our numbers of servicemen and servicewomen, but most do not have the training they need, and at the moment we lack the capacity to provide all of the training in-house. In an unstable world, it is vital we have a functioning army that can deal with the potential threats we face. As we have seen recently in Dundorf, the continent of Artania is not immune to disorder and revolution. I am therefore requesting the Senate to request assistance from the Holy Luthori Empire in the training of our armed services, and also with certain military equipment parts we currently lack. Senator Cosmo Adams Chairman of the Imperial Alliance Minister of Defence |

Message | Madam Speaker, Defense constitutes around 25% of our entire budget: yes, we have a rebuilding process, but this doesn't mean we should rely on the services of another nation. We instantly lose any negotiation leverage we may already have when we need it in future. The agenda of the Imperial Alliance is no secret: they want full integration with the Holy Luthori Empire and it's clear that this is just another ploy to take us a step closer to full integration. So I urge you all, Senators: do not fall into their trap and reject this blatant power play. We must block any attempt to subjugate the people of Beluzia under the unelected leader of the Holy Luthori Empire. Believe me, Senators, if this passes we are being taken a step closer to integration. |

Message | Madam Speaker, We face a choice between greatness or mediocrity. There is a real need to modernise our armed services into an efficient, fighting force fit for the 41st century. If we do not take modernisation seriously, we will be unable to achieve our objectives and much of the extra spending will have been for nothing. Message | Madam Speaker, I believe that rejecting aid from Luthori in this case is idiocy. While it's true that we don't share the Imperialist sentiments of the Minister of Defence, there is no case for rejecting this proposal. Accepting aid has nothing to do with subjugation. What New Labour and the establishment parties have exposed here is the true nature of their politics. They are more interested in their own abstract policies than the interests and security of the people they're paid to serve. It also exposes the weakness of this government. It's a government tied together by self interest, but too inherently weak to even back it's own cabinet members! We support international aid and co-operation, and we'll continue to fight for the interests of the people. - Adam Crawford, Libertarian Party Spokesperson on Foreign Relations |

Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar). |
