Bill: The Early Election Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kalistan Unionst Party (KUP)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill requests an early election. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline. Elections will be held immediately if the bill passes.

Voting deadline: February 4061

Description[?]:

We, the Kalistan Passion Party (KPP), call for early elections as soon as possible in light of the demise of the KLP with 183 seats available we see this as the only option. No one voted for a SPoK majority, this is what we now have.
W.Killams
Leader of KPP

MessageThe KNDP supports this bill for early elections as it is the only democratic way forward, to continue onwards with a SPoK majority in government would be against the will of the people and defying democracy

MessageAt the last election, a total of 34,102,241 people voted for the two parties which currently constitutes the government. This is compared to 3,383,813 (over ten times less) who voted for parties which support this bill, please explain again how this is undemocratic?

MessageOOC: There are also several bills in the voting stage so new elections would be a huge nuisance.

MessageYour coalition is no longer required, 183 seats are now empty, we need a re-election to give the 15,757,976 that voted for the KLP a different choice.

MessageSurely the Labour Party and the SPoK can be tempted by the potential increase of seats for their parties. If not who is reperesenting the 15,757,976 that voted for the KLP

MessageAnd that resolves matters. We need to have new elections at the regular time, and in the meanwhile, we have a functioning government, a seated Premier and a ruling majority. There is no issue with the LP's going defunct which will prevent us from governing.

There is something I wish to address here: there is this nagging insistence by the opposition that representative democracy is somehow not real democracy, and that we need to refer everything to the people, not all the people, mind you, but the ones who support the Opposition's point of view. This sort of anti-institutional populism which seems to exist in some corners of our Republic is not only undemocratic but also unconstitutional, and we encourage Parties to stop referring to the people as a single unit when they do not represent even a plurality of That Body. We have institutions and elections in this country for a reason. The People have spoken in that election. And that is that. And now we abide by institutional rules, not rules that t h e opposition just invented after losing the last election.

If you are in the opposition, you have no mandate to govern. That is the institutional arrangement in Kalistan. This is not a direct democracy. It's time we all remembered that.

MessageIt is curious that we are firstly told that the coalition is no longer needed because the SP has a majority then the SP are told they don't have a democratic mandate. All parties have been out of government at one time and we appreciate it can be frustrating. Unfortunately, that is the position you are in and you have to accept it, get on with legislating and stop complaining.

MessageWe will vote against this bill given our error into this situation, will the SPoK look to form a majority or will the coalition remain?

MessageOur patience is wearing thin with the deliberate dishonesty of the CIP, the President is democratically elected and the body which must approve the cabinet is democratically elected. They didn't win the Presidency, they don't have a majority in the Assembly, therefore, they can't choose the cabinet. Those are the facts of the matter now change the record.
