Bill: National and Local Police Services Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unsubmissive Beluzian Workers Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 4072

Description[?]:

Do we want one police station in all of Beluzia manage every state's safety? Imagine this. A woman calls from Bailon saying that there is someone in her house trying to rape her and steal her items. A police officer responds in the nation's capital and says he's on his way. 1-2 hours later, he arrives in Bailon and finds out that the woman has been killed and her house ransacked. Do we seriously want high crime rates? No. Then I urge the Federal Senate to vote Yes to change this disastrous proposal that we have in place.

MessageMadam Speaker,

There isn't one police station in all of Beluzia that would be absurd!
There is simply a national police service ensuring all police officers have consistent training, equipment and uniform ensuring everyone receives the same level of service.

Indeed only a few years ago we had regional police services which were a shambles. The training of each for was inconsistent, the uniforms mismatched and the standard of service abysmal. Not to mention the amount of money which was being spent on inefficiently run forces.

Our party passed the national police service act which modernised the service, all local stations were rebranded and modernised, all old equipment and uniforms replaced, purchases made in bulk to ensure a better deal and training was standardised and brought up to scratch. This bill would propose Beluzia go back in time 30 years. Our police response times haven't got any worse, infact they have improved and crime is down!

MessageMadam Speaker,

A fantasitc change of heart by the BPDP. As always, local services are streets better than national services in this regard, where local knowledge, awareness and understanding are vital. The images the SWP creates are nothing more than fantasy. Anyone who met a police officer prior to this nationalisaton will know these are blatant lies. 'Standardisation' is a code word for 'holding back the best'. The 'standardisation' has also prevented officers from spending time on local priorities, for fear of not meeting the national 'standards'. This is wasteful disrespect of our local services.
As such, we applaud and support this Bill.

MessageMadam Speaker,

We want to underline what the SWP mentioned, we just have one single police hierarchy that is national wide and directly falls under the ministry of Justice. there is not one single police station. We are a country with a population of a 100 million, it would be absurd if there was only one police station, and this must clearly be a case of misinterpretation. We would like to keep the national police and keep the standardisation. Because what our colleagues of the NLP fail to mention in their appeal of 'holding back the best' is that we also keep out the worst, and standardisation does in no way keep people down who are talented, especially in a job as police officer where that word must and should always carry the same meaning. Therefore we oppose this bill.

MessageMadam Speaker,

The New Liberal Party claim the National Police Service is wasteful and yet regional forces rinsed the ministry of justice budget. The combined bargaining power of everyone having the same equipment has meant enormous savings on everything from IT contracts, vehicle fleet, uniform and protective equipment.

The police air support has become more efficient as the resources are in a national pool and are evenly spread instead of the previous system of being based only in the big cities. We now have a number of bases spread accross Beluzia ensuring 24/7 coverage and quick response times everywhere.

As my colleague from the SPA mentioned, the national system in no way holds back the best. Infact, it encourages them by providing state of the art training and equipment whilst preventing bad, outdated training and practices which were occurring in the smaller regional forces.

Beluzia can now boast to have the finest police service in the world. Unarmed, policing by consent, with the highest standards or training and equipment. Why do we want to change that?
