We believe that war is of last resort, and indeed, war is always a last resort. My first concern is our military may not be ready. | Message | After reviewing the facts the Liberal Party would like to announce that we will be officially opposing this war. We believe war should only ever be a last resort and it is not something we should do alone. The war will do more harm to civilians in Beiteynu than the current oppressive regime. That does not mean that we should stand by and do nothing. No! Far from it. We ask our fellow Aldurians to quench their jingoistic spirit and take a moment to think about this. It is not a decision anyone should take lightly. We recommend that instead of war we must attempt diplomacy, both with the international community and with Beiteynu itself. Political and economic sanctions should be considered first. We will only support war if it comes from an international coalition. Should this vote pass, the current Liberal President will resign and we will propose an early election in which we will put forward no presidential candidate nor shall we endorse one. | Message | OOC: '23.1 Role-play events between nations, such as wars, will be officially recognised if before they are commenced, in all of the concerned nations a RP event bill outlining the event is approved by a 2/3rds majority of all players with seats (not just those with seats who vote) and over 50% of the seats in the legislature. This bill must specify the necessary and possible consequences of the role-play event, as well as a clause that deals with the eventuality of one or more players becoming absent for more than a specified time, and how such an absence is to be interpreted in in-game terms.' While I'm not going to object to the legitimacy of this vote passing as it fulfils the criteria, I would like to highlight that very little of the RP has been outlined. (Who approves it in Beiteynu (a link to a bill approving war on their end), who is going to take charge of RP, what the goal of the war is, where will it be RPed) I think for the sake of this thing working out cleanly a new bill should be proposed CLEARLY outlining what's going on. (I will gladly vote yes on it as I accept this result, I just think it will benefit all if we have a clear plan). |
