MessageWe support mayors being elected by the people of that region. This would ensure that the people get a say on budget proposals and important local laws. Someone who simply turns up and is appointed by the president doesn't really represent the people.

MessageWe oppose this change. We would instead like to see Mayors be independently elected once more.

MessageWe are open to both options on this issue, we would prefer that municipal councils elect the mayors because this prevents a situation developing in which the mayor cannot command the confidence of the council as a whole and the governing process falls apart.

MessageTrue but this is like saying we should have an absolute monarchy because it is the only stable form of government as the leader doesn't change. We are opposed to this

MessageThat's a lot of hyperbole and a council, who were themselves elected, choosing the mayor is still a democratic way of doing things.

MessageI agree- there is a kind of democracy other than direct democracy, which, though it may appear to be attractive, is easy prey for Demagogues of both the left and right.

MessageI disagree. The people need to have a direct say in the election of mayors instead of trusting a bunch of politicians to make desicions for them, the people deserve better than that.

MessageAre we agreed that some election is better than allowing councils to decide? If we are then why don't we just reach a consensus on which system is best? I invite all parties to express a preference of:
-Councils elect
-Citizens directly elect
-Either is agreeable

When I feel we're agreed, that's the option I will choose.

MessageI believe the best option would be for citizens to directly elect their mayors.

MessageWe have no preference.
