Message | I rise today in objection to this piece of legislation. Our party, the LPU, the people of this nation, have fought tirelessly over the last several years to combat this type of fascist legislation and demagoguery. We have fought for freedom, for justice, for equality. We have, made progress. We have seen great strides. This nation has, as all great nations do, marched forward. What this legislation would seek to do, the ends of this means, is march us backwards several decades. It would see a return to a form of governing that should remain in the pages of history books. It should be left to be seen as a great warning of what not to do. How dangerous would it be, how terrible, to see the return of political paramilitary organizations. It was not that look ago that we saw a political assassination. A leader of our nation, a leader of the LPU, Ethanal White, may God rest his soul, was shot and killed by a former Paramilitary member. The mere though that any political party in this nation would propose that we resurrect those fascist constructs should send shivers down the spine of everyone in this hallowed hall. They breed violence. Our party was proud to have authored and sponsored the Peaceful Political Participation Act that banned paramilitary organizations in this country, they should continue to be banned. We will fight to put a stop to any attempt, by any party, to bring them back. No military should ever have the power to police the citizenry of any nation. The police and the military should remain separate. Permanently. It is imperative, for the health of a free and civilized nation, that there be present a civilian police force. Free peoples should police free peoples. A military force, which by it's very nature is designed to combat and destroy foreign enemies, can not be allowed to police citizens. We must ensure that our country does not devolve into a military police state. Fascism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, must be reject. I urge my colleagues in this body, reject this monstrosity of a bill. Keep Luthori a peaceful, free, and civilized nation. I yield. Prescott Ramon |
