Details
Submitted by[?]: New Democrats
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 4165
Description[?]:
The Public Broadcasting Act of 4162 establishes government subsidies for independent non-profit cooperatives which broadcast educational and informational programming on both the radio and television and guarantees equal funds to all such cooperatives. It is in the interests of the public to encourage the growth and development of educational and informational broadcasting. This act of the National Assembly would establish subsidies to do so, while ensuring that subsidized stations and programming remain independent of the government, preventing publicly-funded broadcasting from being used as a propaganda machine. |

Message | Greetings, colleagues. My party seeks your input on the current proposal we have set forward for the creation of public broadcasting subsidies as it stands. Another option that could be explored is, instead of allowing both for-profit and non-profit private stations and programs in addition to the subsidies, only allowing non-profit cooperative private stations and programs in addition to the subsidies. Please let my party know where you stand on both of these options. -- Maria Rodriguez, Liberal Party Spokeswoman |

Message | We believe it would be best that all radio and television stations would be Non-Profit Worker Directed Enterprises, instead of allowing for normal Corporate Systems to begin to compete against them. if I must be honest, Corporations can't be trusted with such a fragile system. It would be best if non-profit co-operatives continued to control our media freely, the state does no need to play part. Thank you. ~ Andy Hunt, New Royalist Founder and President |

Message | We oppose. The airwaves are public and must remain in the hands of not for profit organizations governed by the public. |

Message | I believe there is some misunderstanding. The airwaves would still remain in the hands of non-profits, the only difference is that these independent non-profits would be funded by the public. As I mentioned, there is the option to continue to allow non-publicly-funded broadcasts by non-profits, while still banning for-profit corporate broadcasting. -- Maria Rodriguez, Liberal Party Spokeswoman |

Message | This proposal would take the control of the media away from public hands and into the hands of the government. Perhaps not directly but if a cooperative has to appeal to the government, they are more likely to receive funding for pro-government programming. We rather not run the risk of establishing a propaganda arm. Stefaan Samuel, Premier of the Republic |

Message | The legislation has been amended to ensure that all non-profit broadcasting cooperatives receive equal funding from the government subsidy. Thus, an important investment into the future of Kalistan in this great age of information is still made, but different cooperatives will not have to appeal to the government for funds, eliminating bias and the possibility of a propaganda arm. -- Donovan Scott, Public Broadcasting Act author Liberal Party |
