Bill: Varman Save Our Animals Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unsubmissive Beluzian Workers Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 4185

Description[?]:

Despite we are being called the world's most animal friendly nation, we are testing cosmetic products on animals. It is one of the most controversial topics the world has ever had and we are still on the list of countries that legalise it. If we say we are animal friendly, that's a false lie. Yearly, many animals such as rabbits, mice, rats etc are killed and the latest statistic has 250 animals killed each year because of testing cosmetics. We are not cruel, coldhearted creatures and are compassionate, loving creatures. Let me present Parliament with three points why we should overturn this disintegrating and sick law:

-It causes death of animals. Although there are painless trials, where animals are returned to their original locations, this does not always happen and sometimes they are killed after each trial. Some animals also suffer from chemical poisoning or injuries which will live with them forever
-Inhumane treatment. Animals will endure cruel treatment and are restrained. In the case of the draize test, eyelids of rabbits were held back for 3 days. This is controversial, as they experienced suffering and almost torture and will eventually die, just for the sake of 'looking good'
-Tests that are unnecessary. Animal testing on cosmetics do not lead to the release of new cosmetics. Instead, there are tests done without putting products into the bodies of animals. They are just suffering and dying in vain by being subject of cruel and shameful tests that do not have benefits on the homo sapiens. Unless every product that we produce is tested and is safe for our consumption, we do not see the need of testing cosmetics on animals.

If we are animal friendly and have high animal welfare standards, why do we still have laws that benefit the profits of big corporations when the abuses are not addressed by cosmetic companies? Having a program like this costs money and instead of using money to torture animals and not providing them with good care, we should use this money to put more focus in investing in our government services by increasing spending to improve the livelihoods of our poor and vulnerable. We ask Parliament, including the parties that voted for the current law to think about our animal welfare laws. Do we want to see a nation where animals are being dumped into forests? Or do we want a nation where animals are cared for like babies? Our nation's animal friendly title depends on the decisions that our politicians make and not the decisions that special interests make to influence our nation's policy direction. Thank you.

MessageWe are not in favor of this bill because some of the claims made by the BRRP are simply unfounded regarding our current state of animal testing policy.

Inhumane and cruel testing is not permitted because the animal testing in Beluzia is regulated. Unregulated testing causes these injustices, but this is not the case in our nation. We do not understand the claim regarding "unnecessary tests" - the regulation of the cosmetic tests ensures that only products that will be released for civilian use are tested on animals. These labs are not the realms of "mad scientists" who wildly do as they please, and to claim otherwise is misleading and sensationalist.

Shall we care for our animals like babies? Sure. But we must also care for our actual human babies like babies. Imagine the great tragedy that would occur if a faulty baby powder was not adequately tested and released to the market. This could have a massive negative health impact that could have easily been prevented.
