Message | M. Modérateur, In a time of great need, conscription may be necessary. Whilst it would be unthinkable for a situation as such to occur, should such a scenario be ready, the government needs the mandate to place people on the battlefield in order to save our nation. The PCL has full trust in our diplomats, and that is why we feel this bill is necessary. Should our excellent negotiators fail to reach an agreement with another nation, it would most certainly be clear that that nation would be a real threat to our existence. Should our negotiators, and I stress this is an highly unlikely scenario, the result would most probably be one of full out war. Therefore, and in anticipation of this tragic and brutal attack from another nation, Lourenne would have no choice but to call in people from all walks of life to fight in the war. Having said that, it is clear that we should not infringe upon people's religious freedom - an issue that has been upheld by the PCL since its formation in 4191. There is a difference people who do believe war is wrong, and people who believe that war goes against their religious text/teachings. We thank the Honourable Members of this House for listening to our arguments, and hope that they will see that, just in case a storm does break, that as much protection as necessary is required. We therefore press the House to deliver a "yes" vote. Mme. Canek PCL Candidate for Minster of Defence M. Petri PCL Candidate for Minister of Foreign Affairs |

Message | M. Modérateur, This is a bill which will give religious people special treatment. People's religious beliefs and non-religious views are equal and should be treated this way. There is no difference. This is discrimination of secular, non-religious people and atheists. This bill would make these people second class citizens, I ask all people to oppose this discriminatory bill. Roseline Matthieu, Leader of PR |

Message | M. Modérateur, The PCL disagrees, not with the opinion, but with the approach that the PR take. Whilst, without a shadow of a doubt, the government should not be favouring a group of people, it is important you take people's beliefs into account. The question that should be examined within this debate is whether someone can be moral without being religious. The answer to that, of course, is yes. It is possible to have a good sense of right and wrong, regardless of your (lack of) religious beliefs. However, it is what religious people do with that, that makes this bill so important. To a religious follower, the purpose of being moral, and not going to war, is often down to the belief of the need to be "good" to get into the afterlife. As trivial as that may sound to any atheist, and the PCL assumes there are many of these within the PR, to these people this matters, and has a profound psychological affect upon them. However, for an atheist, there is no need to live life in a good way. When you die, you die. That's it. Full stop. The fact is that atheists often view a religious person's pursuit for morality as a choice, but they fail to see that the religious person genuinely believes that this is done at their deity's / God's calling. Therefore, for the want of removing religious ignorance from this nation, I once again urge the Honourable Members to support this bill. The fact is that, whilst the position the PR take is reasonable to some extent, its position too also can be viewed as discriminatory and ignorant of the rights of others. M. Lambert First Officer of the PCL |

Message | Honoured members of the Assemblée Nationale, The AVL understands arguments from both sides, But we believe the current legislation does give space to religous objectors, and gives them a good second option in non-combatants roles such as doctors. In that way, they can save lives instead of take them, which is a good thing.
