Details

Submitted by[?]: Hutorian Peoples Front

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 4211

Description[?]:

This budget has been drafted and proposed by the Prime Minister, and leader of the Hutorian National Party.

This budgets aim is to tackle the major financial issues that we are currently faced against. We believe that the best way to do this is using austerity measures. Cuts have been made in many departmental areas however key areas such as defence have remained at the same level of spending. A total of 32,000,000,000 HLR in cuts is being proposed. We believe that these measures are what it takes to repair our economy.

Message''Mr. Speaker

I highly disagree with that new budget reform. I disagree with that budget for two reason.

First of all because I don't think austerity is the solution for getting us out of the crisis. It's actually the worst thing we could do. It's just a basic economic concept, when the economy is doing badly you make the government bigger and when the economy is good you make the government smaller. Austerity would just create unemployment and make our economy even worst. I would recommend to all my colleagues in the senate to read the fantastic commments of the economist Katina Lesya Yurievna ( http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7246&p=114135#p113989 ) who brilliantly explain why austerity is a bad thing.

Secondly, I disagree with which departemental areas had received cuts. Cuting 5 bilions HRL in the ministry Infrastructure and Transport is a really bad idea. Don't the Prime Minister know that infrastructures and transport are the two most important elements of a healthy economy? And why should we cut 17 billiosn HRL in healt and education when we only cut 5 billions in science and technology. For me, it's clear enough that we should cut more in the Science and Technology rather than any other ministry.

I would also like to announce that I have the intention to create my own budget soon to adress the economic crisis that is affecting us and I am looking forward to work with Prime Minister White into building a new budget that could realy get us out of this crisis.''

MessageMr speaker,

We need to be reasonable with our spending in times such as these. My party takes the view that We currently are overspending and that in itself can be potentially damaging. These cuts may cause short term problems however with careful structural planning, there is no reason why we can't maintain a reasonable level of public services under this budget.
