Bill: Abortion Act II, October 4218

Details

Submitted by[?]: Parti Conservateur Libertaire

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 4219

Description[?]:

We understand that everyone else wants to legalise abortion, however, the former legislation presented by the FLC in the Right to Choose Act, conflicted the bill that made abortion only allowed in the first trimester. If the House examines The Abortion Act, June 4199 (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=515049), you will see that the bill also introduced legislation from the Abortion Status Bill, December 4198 (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=514905).

The issue here is that the Right to Choose Act only repeals half of the Abortion Act, June 4199. The PCL feels, however, that the correct way of revocation would be to have the House have to repeal the Abortion Status Bill first. This prevents any sort of contradiction in the law.

As a result, we ask the House to revert the Right to Choose Act, regardless of your opinion, so that your goal can finally be reached in a way that respects the legislation of Lourenne, instead of forces it to contradict itself. We would just need you to abstain, and whilst we would still disagree with you lifting either articles in the Abortion Act, we foresee it as a inevitability within the short-term future.

We thank the House, and hope they will see the sense in this bill.

Mme. Mélanie Desjardins
PCL Candidate for Minister of Health and Social Services
Third Officer of the PCL

MessageWe are confused by what is meant. How might one hope to think that the Right to Choose Act did not nullify this Abortion Status Bill? As far as I can tell, we have changed abortion being murder after the first six weeks to abortion being murder after the entire pregnancy is completed, a situation in which abortion cannot occur. We are happy to completely repeal such a law as the The Abortion Act and its corollary, the Abortion Status Bill, but I am not of a mind that the Right to Choose Act has created any sort of gray area. Abortion is legal, one cannot be tried for procuring or providing one. The law is clear.
