MessageMr. Speaker

Hutori's nuclear weapons program has made Hutori one of the most powerful nations on Terra and has ensured its security for three centuries. We have faced nuclear annihilation several times and we have only been kept safe by the threat of nuclear retaliation of our military and nuclear might. To rid ourselves of this weapons would get rid of our ultimate safeguard and would open us to foreign threats by other nations. Despite the naïve outlook by the Conservatives we live in a dangerous world.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the Centrists remain blissfully unaware of the dangers of today's world and how important Hutori's nuclear weapons have become to our national security. We will adamantly vote against this attempt by the Centrists to purposefully weaken's Hutori's strategic position in the world and its military.

MessageMr Speaker,

Our well trained military is more than capable of defending our country without nuclear weapons. We do not need these terrible weapons, they only serve as a scare tactic. There are already countries on Terra that have outlawed nuclear weapons and Hutori could join them and become leaders in the eradication of nuclear weapons across Terra. Instead the Royal Conservatives insist on keeping them to make us "look tough". Our party adamantly opposes all production, storage, and use of nuclear weapons and will continue to fight until the nuclear weapons program is terminated.

MessageMr. Speaker

We openly admit and applaud other nations that have ended and terminated their own nuclear weapons programs, and the moment all nations have joined together to end the spectre of nuclear armageddon we will gladly join with them. However the sad and sorry truth is that there are rogue State actors that haven't joined these "enlightened" nations and it is these nations that we keep our nuclear weapons for. While we agree the Hutorian Armed Forces will keep us safe from any conventional foe these weapons give us further insurance from attack. We, unlike the Centrists, do not take chances with our national security.

MessageMr Speaker,

While it is great to hear that the Royal Conservatives applaud other nations for terminating their own nuclear weapons programs, why do they refuse to allow Hutori to become a true leader in eradicating nuclear weapons?

MessageMr. Speaker

As i just finished explaining to the Centrists we do not keep our nuclear weapons for conventional threats, we keep them to ensure our security against rogue State actors that would otherwise attack us if not for the threat of nuclear retaliation. We will gladly become a leader in ridding Terra of nuclear weapons when all other nations agree to do the same. Until that point we will not threaten our national security with idealism like the Centrists seem willing to.

MessageMr Speaker,

Unless Hutori makes the huge step forward of abolishing the nuclear weapons program, no other nation will take us seriously as leaders of a nuclear weapons eradication movement. We must abolish the program now and encourage all other nations to do the same.

MessageMr. Speaker

I invite the Centrists to make a suggestion for a defence against a nuclear attack from a rogue nation state that doesn't take Hutori seriously the moment it dismantles its nuclear weapons. The truth of the matter is there is no defence, only the threat of nuclear retaliation. If the Centrists knew anything more then blind idealism and that we live in a perfect world then they would see that our nuclear deterrents have kept Hutori safe for more then three centuries and will continue to ensure our security against these rogue threats. We will dismantle our weapons when there is no more need for them, and not threaten our national security like the Centrists seem more then willing to.

MessageMr. Speaker,

It has always been the opinion of the Ataraxian Confederation that weapons of mass destruction only ensure mutual destruction, but neither ensure peace or defense. Furthermore, even in the case of a "defensive" retaliatory strike, the chance for extreme environmental and civilian loses is way too high. If we are to be civilized, we must cast aside these archaic and terroristic weapons and show the world that Hutori will never resort to such evils in order to defend itself.

If we are to ever hope for a world free of nuclear weapons, or a world of peace, then we will never get there through threats or intimidation, but rather through mutual respect and understanding. If our alleged enemies cannot be persuaded through compassion and reason, then we should hardly expect them to behave rationally in other categories. If we allow ourselves to fall into the trap of expecting others to disarm before us, then we will only fuel a vicious cycle of an arms race.

Until then, we can expect other nations to desire to arm themselves under the same reasoning of the "greater" powers at be.

MessageMr. Speaker

First I would like to thank the Ataraxian Confederation for involving itself in Question Period and ending their boycott of speaking in this chamber. Debate is always more lovely when our parties speak to one another and we applaud them for returning to the fold.

We are also pleased that the Confederation brought up the point that rogue nation states are unlikely to react rationally. While rational and civilized nations might bend to things such as sanctions. It is often times the threat of nuclear retaliation that stops their own hand from launching a nuclear strike. We have seen more and more often in this day and age that nuclear weapons are being gained by nations and these nations are not always friendly towards Hutori. While we wish we could live in a world where these weapons would no longer be necessary we can not afford to risk Hutori national security and the lives of one hundred million Hutorian citizens on good faith, compassion and reason to guide our actions. If we rid ourselves of these weapons, we lose our ultimate and final deterrent that has kept Hutori safe for the last three centuries and we will not sacrifice our security for the sake of idealism.

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election.
