Message | Herr Präsident, We strongly believe in the importance of society and rebuilding communities. This is why the HDV has always been a strong supporters of a citizenship education that goes beyond the classroom and into society. This bill mandates a strong civilian national service provision which will not just teach our young people how important it is to serve one's community and society, but also build long-overdue bridges between rich and poor and, more importantly, between the peoples of this land. Through this service, our young people will work side-by-side for their fellow citizens and with their fellow citizens, learning that there are no classes of citizens in this land of two peoples, but that we all belong to this one federal nation we have become through the September Revolution and which has been restored in the Second September Revolution, in which there is a place and a role for everyone. I urge the Diet to back this billl. shr. ehrw. Quirin Goddestreu, MdR (HDV - Kien Altstadt) Bildungsminister und HDV-Parteiobmann |

Message | OOC: Lol, I can remember these debates quite vividly Marty :D :D :D Herr Präsident, without meaning any offense to my esteemed friend, this is a case in which the HDV's instinctive paternalism gets the best of their usually solid commitment to a non-intrusive government. Does Herr Goddestreu assume that the youth lapse into idleness or withdraw from society once they obtain their graduation certificate, not knowing how to make sense of their newly-found freedom and responsibility in lieu of governmental and parental guidance? I refuse to believe that they require yet another round of tutelage before we can finally release them into the sphere of self-determination - which the HDV, unfortunately, seems to regard as the path to automatic atomization unless the benevolent state intervenes. Let them go about their ways as they venture into business, employment, or higher education - these are hardly areas which encourage withdrawal from the community. Message | Herr Präsident, While I fully support enhancing local communities and civil societies, I have trouble believing that an kind of charity can be instilled in the heart of the individual by being forced to participate in a government-funded programme. This is likely only to cause resentment among more... well, 'chill' youngsters and reward the goody-two-shoes types that's just terrible to have around. Knecht Jörg Glucksman |
