Bill: Equality Before the Law Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Progress Party—The Greens

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 4331

Description[?]:

No one is above the law, not even members of the Chamber of Deputies. There is no reason why members of the legislature should have immunity from violating the law. While the current law allows this immunity to be lifted by a vote of the Chamber, we argue that this creates opportunity for political considerations to influence whether or not immunity is lifted rather than equal justice before the law. Therefore, we propose the abolition of parliamentary immunity.

— Mika Adonai, Spokesperson for Justice
