Bill: Protection of Vital Industries Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Progress Party—The Greens

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4340

Description[?]:

We would again like to propose this as a failsafe to prevent the collapse of vital, yet unprofitable industries that are at risk of collapsing. This will not create bailouts for every business that is at risk of failing, but will only nationalize or otherwise support absolutely vital industries to society that are failing.

MessageWe will not support. Why should the tax payer pay for a business that is failing because it refuses to adapt and evolve to customers wants and needs?
We should not pass this but instead pay for the wages of workers who are being let go until they can find a job. We should also be putting money into job centres and schemes helping people back into work.
Basically why should the people have to prop up a failing business?

MessageThis isn’t about supporting businesses, this is preventing a critical industry from collapse. We understand what you are saying about the need for adaptation if businesses want to survive but the reality of our economy is that some industries as a whole, not just businesses, are absolutely vital to society, but fail to provide a meaningful profit to the businesses running them. This simply prevents the loss of a vital industry or service if such an industry is failing by allowing some government intervention.

MessageI ask again why should we prop up a business that can’t survive on a commercial basis?
I understand the progress party’s concerns for people’s jobs but why not focus spare money on that instead of propping uo something that will only fail again in the future?

MessageThe National Commmunist Party fully endorses the Protection of Vital Industries Act. We believe that if necessary, the state should do all that it can to ensure that domestic industries are protected at the expense of failing.

MessageI think you may misunderstand our reasoning for this law. Though we of course do care about jobs, that is not the main concern of this bill. Protecting the vital services provided by a failing industry as a whole is our core concern, not propping up the individual businesses or employers. Continuing to allow consumers to have access to a vital, yet unprofitable industry is the point of this.

MessageWhile we may not have a political presence within the legislature, the National Communist Party throws its support behind the Protection of Vital Industries Act.
