Bill: General Strike

Details

Submitted by[?]: Luthori Workers' Committee

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 4355

Description[?]:

We call for a General Strike to force the removal of the tyrant Queen Sarah IV and to help facilitate the birth of a democratic Republic in Luthori.

Workers have the right to withdraw their labour without fear of vindictive reprisals and it is another affront to democracy and human rights that this is denied to the peoples of our nation.

MessageMr. Speaker,

It is telling that the so-called "Luthori Workers' Committee" understands that what they are demanding is completely unreasonable. Indeed, what they are advocating is illegal under the Constitutional Safety Act, and unless they renounce their support for republicanism and vote against this bill, their party will be banned. (OOC: See http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=559662)

The last republican regime was a puppet of the Jamessonites, who soon installed themselves on the throne, and the republic before that banned workers from organising altogether. This government has done more to safeguard the rights of Luthorian workers than any republican regime this millennium.

Her Imperial & Most Excellent Majesty is the Empress of Luthori, not the Queen. Accusations against her of being a tyrant would be downright laughable if they were not so slanderous.

MessageMr Speaker,

Who are the "White Rose (IA) - S" but the bought and paid for spokespeople of a hostile foreign power. They talk of the laws of Luthori as if they have a hand in them!
Justice in Luthori belongs to the people of Luthori. And the people shall have justice.

We shall be bringing forward legislation to restrict foreign influence in our elections to combat this menace.

OOC: For the record the 'RP: Constitutional Safety Act 4351' Bill was placed directly beneath the 'Bills under debate' section after this proposal was moved to a vote. Also, the only player, so far, to have expressed a problem with the proposal is inactive.

MessageMr. Speaker,

It is unfortunate that this fringe group of communists continue with their slander. My colleagues and I are all loyal Luthorians. I and many others who sit on these benches fought against the Jamessonites, who now the so-called "Workers' Committee" seek to imitate.

Perhaps the honourable member could explain how my colleagues and I work for a hostile foreign power?

I yield.

OOC: The RP bill was placed under Luthori Special Bills as soon as the RP bill was passed but I will rename it Luthori RP laws to make it more clear...

Random quote: "A democracy that does not allow limits is not a democracy. Just as a limitless freedom is not freedom, but prevarication. Indeed, any theory of freedom worthy of this name is first of all a limit theory. If we extend the unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not willing to defend a tolerant society against the attacks of the intolerants, then the tolerants will be destroyed and the tolerance with them! Because, I ask to myself and ask you, given a certain system that we call democratic, which is today the best possible system to allow everyone to live freely and to be able to express their own thoughts, how can the same system admit attacks against its integrity? How can a system refuse the principle of the self-preservation? For this reason, to suppress the apologetics of thalerrism, it's for this reason that the exaltation of exegetes, principles, facts or methods of Thallerism and its anti-democratic aims does not constitute a violation of the freedom of manifestation of thought, but, on the contrary, the celebration of that freedom. The protection of the first premise on which a modern democratic system is based. And this premise must be safeguarded also and above all against itself and its abuses." ~ Malik Astori, Leadership of Liberty and Progress (Istalia)
