Bill: The Estates Act of 4368

Details

Submitted by[?]: Council of Lords

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 4369

Description[?]:

Terran society has become muddled and confused over the past centuries. But one universal truth has remained true, even as it has been assaulted by the ignorant and ill-educated.

Some men or women, (we don't judge) are born with different qualities than others. Some make better labourers, others better soldiers, and a special few make better leaders. These qualities are by no means exclusively passed down through genetics, someone can be born to an imbecile and then still go on to conquer the world.

But that is exceedingly rare.

In fact most people are rather daft, and that is not an insult, it is proven by science that idiocy begets idiocy, and before long we would live not in a republic or monarchy but rather an "idiocracy".

The example i mentioned about the son of an imbecile is the result of a genetic mishap really, you see good members of the house, 90% of all fortunes made by exeptional men like that, no matter how large tend to be lost after just one or two generations, idiocracy takes it's share good members of the house.

But you see good collegues, that does not happen to families of noble lineage. My family fortune has only grown for the last nine generations, not because I or nobles are "exceptional" but instead because we are not subject to the rampant idiocracy that has plagued humanity since the dawn of time.

Because idiots and fools make rather poor noblemen, but apparently they make excellent voters.

Another example good collegues, is that of the merchant vessel.

Imagine that you work on a ship, bound for a lucrative trade route through dangerous waters during a season of bad weather. Who would you rather captain the ship?

Someone voted by the sailor perhaps? but they would simply vote fot the most popular mate, not the most competent.

Or, would you rather a cadre of experienced captains choose the most competent from amongst themselves?

Perhaps not, they might just choose based on pecking order, but then again they have a genuine financial interest in the voyage, having invested great sums of wealth into the expedition, and thus choosing the most competent captain is in their direct interest.

Unlike the crewmen whom only have their wages and maybe a potential bonus wagered on the voyage.

After all, a beggar losing a single likath out of ten will live another day, but a millionare that loses two hundred thousand likath overnight might never recover from his losses.

And now, the esteemed lords of the council make a sound proposal that Likatonian society return to a more natural model of life, on that has been the natural hierarchy since the dawn of time.

Reestablish the estate system, the clergy, the commons and the nobility. Grant them different responsabilites and powers based on their natural merit, after all a tower built on flexible wood decays and falls, but a tower of rock hewn stone will stand eternal.

All hail Likatonia!
All hail the rightful king!
All hail Sigismund! Glory to him!

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost.

Random quote: "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." - Winston Churchill
