Voting deadline: April 4374
Description[?]:
Nasennian Law on the Defense of Piety Senators, In recent years Pietas has been perverted and subverted into an instrument of conspiracy against the Republic. Instead of serving as the social glue it originated as, it has become a weapon against Republican values and Selucian traditions. Instead of encouraging charity and humanity, piety has become the battle cry of tyrants and monarchists, leading to a backlash from well-meaning Selucians who have come to wrongly believe that religion is a force of evil that must be restrained. The Republican Party believes it is time to return piety to its central role in Selucian society and to put an end to interreligious conflicts that have torn our body politic apart. It is time for religion to be a force for good once again, one that joins rather than divides, and one that cultivates virtuous and altruistic citizens. For that reason we call on the Senate to put an end to religious strife and to prohibit verbal and written violence between religions, in order to allow all Selucian citizens to live free from the fear of religious defamation and hate speech. We also call on this sacred body to put an end to its policy of discrimination against religions, allowing them to thrive once again and commit their efforts to the establishment of peace, stability, and tolerance. Decimus Nasennius Valens Senator |

Message | Senators, Criticism is one thing, if done respectfully and peacefully. Blasphemy, or rather religious hate-speech and incitement to religious violence is quite another. This law permits and even encourages civil dialogue between religions while restricting intolerant and offensive speech. Decimus Nasennius Valens Senator |
