Message | Why exactly should we have a nationalised post office? Having private post offices doesn't impede mail deliverey. Indeed, privatizing services like this tend to create jobs and create a competative atmosphere that improves the service provided. What is the argument for nationalisation? |

Message | It creates even more jobs having a nationalised one and private companies. Also it will increase service of the industry making it more competitive and if the worst comes to worst and certain parts of the industry go under the people can still turn to the Nationalised Post Office. This will also break up the possibilities of monopolies breaking up in certain areas by companies buying out certain sectors and charging outrageous sums. |

Message | Actually, I can only see it doing exactly the opposite of what you just said. Government moves into a private sector. Private companies panic in fear of Government agency either forcing their closure, or causing their business to slump. Government sets a standard, and the sector becomes uncompetitive. Uncompetitive rates cause charges to be arbitrary instead of adjusted to the needs of people. The private sector either is unable to compete or unwilling, private post agencies close, and jobs are lost. At best you have a redundant bureaucratic Government agency overpowering and destroying small businesses. At worse you have a bureaucratic Government agency that asserts a monopoly and charges rates based on the bureaucracys drive to break even on its expenditures and not on the cost consumers wish to spend. Either way you waste taxpayer money on something the private sector handles much more efficiently. |

Message | The main argument : "Public Service". If profits and competitivity are the only thing driving the Post offices, it's very likely that they'll drop some "sector" than are not judged profitable enough. How can you make any money if you have to deliver mail in a rural areal where villages are distant from each another ? And why people living there shoulb be barred to have mail just because they are not profitable enough ? Sure having private competition creates jobs, and perhaps improve the service, but as I said, only where it's profitable enough. But having a national Post Office will not destroy the market as you said. Why would the agency be overwhelming and bureaucratic ? Not everything that is created and managed by States is bureaucratic and prone to destroy competition... |
