MessageSenators,

I'm sure the PHS is aware that in some instances free speech needs to be curtailed. Just recently they introduced a bill proposing to ban child pornography in Selucia - and we fully support that initiative. Since free speech can and in some instances should be restricted, one must wonder whether such restriction serves a greater good in each individual case. For child pornography the greater good is obvious. In the case of blasphemy, after decades of secularist indoctrination, it might not be clear to every Selucian why the benefits of restricting it outweigh the limitations imposed on the fundamental right of free speech. Many of us have unfortunately come to assume that everything religious is inherently bad and that any policy that favors religions must have some nefarious ulterior motive, and the most obvious manifestation of this bias is the hate-speech and intolerance hurled at all religious organizations in our nation, both by radical secularists and by religions themselves. If the PHS and the Selucian left in general agree that there is no human right to ethnic or racial hate-speech, which we hope they do, then we urge them to abandon their religious bias and realize that religious communities deserve the same standard of protection that ethnic and racial groups currently enjoy in our Republic.
