MessageSenators,

We wholeheartedly agree with several of these proposals, particularly the full legalization of all forms of strike action and requiring formal membership in trade unions from all workers. Our own economic platform, based on the economic theory of Distributism, is heavily indebted to Aurorian Social Teaching and the encyclicals of several Arch-Patriarchs on economic matters. However we believe that some of these measures, while necessary in a capitalist system, can be harmful and counter-productive in a Cooperative economy that we have established in Selucia over the years. The minimum wage in particular we believe is of utmost importance in a system dominated by oligopoly capitalism. But in an economic system ruled by worker-owners, as was established in Selucia when the State-Owned Enterprises were sold to their employees, the minimum wage ultimately hurts the smallest companies, that lack the resources for a minimum wage, and threatens to lead to a gradual consolidation of capital in a few hands, undoing our economic reforms for the past few decades and rendering our legislation against monopolies and for cooperative ownership dead letter.

If several of these proposals were introduced separately we would wholeheartedly vote in favor. But as it stands we cannot in good faith vote for a bill that threatens to undo the Distributist economy we have labored so hard to establish for the past thirty years.

MessageSenators,

We respect the position of the Factio Republicana that Senator Nymphidius has so eloquently illustrated. It is our hope that should this bill not pass then we would have their support on the measures where they do agree.

Fr. Ambrose

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action.
