Bill: Appearance of the Caesar Seluciae regarding the state of the nation

Details

Submitted by[?]: Clara Aurora - COSIRA

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4400

Description[?]:

After the dissolution of the PFO, one of the members of the current coalition government, the government finds itself with in minority, with just 291 seats. While a minority government is still a legitimate government, multiple attempts to form a new cabinet have been tried and failed. Therefore, in order to avoid further discussions in the Senate, specially those recently done by Rexist Party and the extra-parliamentary Factio Aurorianus, the Caesar of Selucia appears here in order to ask the Senate the following question: should snap elections be called, or should we wait the pendant legislation to pass or fail and then call for new elections?

The time is now! The people and the world wait with bated breath for a stable Selucia to rise up from the ashes of this current crisis.

MessageSenators,

It is the belief of the Rexist Party that even though the PFO has been dissolved, a coalition can still be formed between us, In Marea, and Factio Imperialis, with the possibility of inclusion of Factio Republicana as a replacement for the PFO. A majority government can be established with cooperation between In Marea and the Rexist Party. We should not panic and call snap elections, as all that would do is appease the theocrats, perhaps making them an even greater threat to the safety and security of the Republic. We ask that everyone remain calm.

MessageCaesar,

What Senator Longidium does not realize is that the Factio Imperialis is undergoing the same turmoil that beguiled the PFO! They are not a dependable ally. You could form a coalition with the Rexists but even that would divide your party. Partnering with such a right-wing faction would be antithetical to your goals and I think that you know where such an alliance would lead. There are two solutions -- call for snap elections or vote upon my party's proposed cabinet of national unity. Those two solutions will lead to the stability that we all seek.

While it is true that we may not always see eye to eye, it is imperative that we stand united together to stem the tide of theocracy. We must defend our great Republic! We must defend the freedoms of the Selucian people! Unitas et robur!

MessageSenators and Citizens,

Senator Longidium refers to the "Tide of Theorcracy" now tell me and the good people of this republic, when have we called for a theocracy? The Factio Aurorianus has called for greater religious awakening and a revival but never for a theocracy. It is you have sought tyranny by continually denying the people an effective government and new elections.

MessageFather Ambrose,

Is it not true that you seek to make an Aurorian Patriarch the head of state of Selucia? Would you not consider this to be a form of theocracy? As far as the elections are concerned, these new elections are not happening until the designated time because the people want it that way. Don't believe me? Then let us hold a referendum!

MessageSenator Longidium,

A referndum on new elections? Sounds like a waste of government spending and more desire to hold onto power. My party has been consistent through this crisis; snap elections now.

Your not the one calling the shots here. If the referendum passes, then elections shall be held. End of story.

MessageSenators,

We find that the behavior of some Senators and public office candidates to do little to restore the confidence of our citizens in our government. Early elections are a drastic and potent tool, a symptom of endemic instability and lack of cooperation, to be used in only the most extreme circumstances. Failure to form a government may count as one such circumstance.

However we believe that under the current circumstances a minority government is the best solution. The Aurorian Party has yet to fully consolidate its positions in front of the electorate, while a coalition government of all Senatorial factions is unlikely and we fear would immediately collapse into petty bickering due to the irreconcilable differences that exist between the parties represented in the Senate.

Instead we would be willing to grant our vote of confidence to a minority cabinet formed exclusively of the Imperial Party. Of all Senatorial parties the Factio Imperialis commands the respect and confidence of practically the entire Senate, and we believe that they could form a universally agreeable cabinet.

If that option is not acceptable to the other parties in the Senate, then we would support early elections as soon as the current legislative proposals either pass or fail.

MessageArguing is not the problem. The problem is how to argue. Debates are always welcomed, and even encouraged, in the Senate, but we should respect everyone inside these walls.

Due to the recent political inactivity of Factio Imperialis (OOC: not logging in), In Marea-Civis Sinistram does not see that minority cabinet, however a solucion needs to be found, whether it is to regain the seats left by PFO or to give this nation another government.

MessageI agree with the Orator's statements. The problem was not the debate, which is indeed more than welcome, but the petty manner in which it was conducted, which can cause serious harm by causing citizens to question the commitment of the government and the Senate to anything other than petty power-struggles.

Given that the Factio Imperialis may find itself in too much turmoil to effectively govern, we believe an early election is in order as soon as the vote on the current bills ends.
