Bill: Budget proposal of November 2198

Details

Submitted by[?]: Beluzian Defense and Federalist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2199

Description[?]:

We have a large surplus of money. What we are proposing is a government spending increase almost across the board.

We propose large increases in Defense, Justice, Health and Social services, Education and Culture, Science and Technology, Environment and Tourism, and Trade and Industry.

We would still have a pretty significant surplus (about 18,000,000,000 BEL) and would be able to better offer services to our country. Money in the bank is good, but a better defended, safer, healthier, better educated, technologically advanced, environmentally friendly, and industrial powerhouse sounds like money well spent.

MessageDefinately a balanced budget. I'm glad that Defense only ranks second place, though I wish Health and Social Services and Education and Culture received more than Justice and Defense.

MessageI considered raising them to higher levels, but considered how far a BEL goes in each category. With the cost of one MBT (main battle tank) we could pay for 430 peoples college education (total tuition =100,000 BEL). I am not arguing that we make defense have more then education or healthcare, but that with the extremely high costs of defending our country, it needs at least as much.

MessageI'm just happy that the bill doesn't hurt other areas in order to put more money in Defense like many of the previous budget proposals.

Messagealso, if you recall from my previous post, this would put our total defense at 10.75% of our GDP, still much lower then our neighbors

MessageOh dear Lord! I'm going to vote no to every daft budget that remains in some proposterous economic fantasy land. The health expenditure of any nation would blow that spent of "Food and Agriculture" in to financial obscurity. We're not giving every square metre of Beluzian pasture a ruddy college scholarship!

GDP and tax revenue aren't the same thing btw.

MessageTASP, the actual conversion is trivial. The point is the ratio of cost of a MBT compared to education should be approximately the same no matter if the cost is in dollars or BEL.

PAL, I agree with you, and that is why I did not increase that area of our budget. The purpose of this bill is to start spending money in areas that we truly need it in. In a perfect world, I would make our defense budget significantly higher. However, that budget would not get passed.

Again, PPP, I would tend to agree with you as well. But consider this, this budget increase our defense budget by 25%, which is better then nothing.
