Bill: Reasonable Adulthood Age Act 4424
Details
Submitted by[?]: Secular Humanist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 4425
Description[?]:
Mr. Speaker, In 4421 our party proposed this change before with the following reasoning: "The age of adulthood currently in law is only 16. This is below the age that a human being has reached adequate cognitive ability for understanding the complexity of policy. Research has shown that people below the age of 21 are impaired in their comprehension of long-term implications of their actions. This could have serious negative outocmes if they are indeed allowed to vote for their own future. We therefore propose that the voting age be raised to 18, which limits the amount of people that an vote without proper cognitive abilities, but does allow a few years for the youth to get into the political game." We hope with the change of seats in the Presidium and support of the coalition that we can change this law. Alexander Prince, MP SHP Party Leader |

Message | Mr. Speaker, It was only a short while ago that the SHP proposed this bill earlier. At the time, a majority of parties in the Presidium voted against. The PSP abstained at the time and the LLP voted against. Have those very same parties lost their spine, that they let this bill pass this time? According to the Liberal Progressives, this is a clear indication of a lack of belief in their own party platforms by those two parties. Message | Mr Speaker, I have to admit that I didn't comment on this earlier because I was waiting for a proposal to be attached. If the legal age of adulthood is to remain at 16 then the benefits and responsibilities of citizenship should be conferred upon a citizen at 16. I do not see the purpose in allowing adulthood at 16 but then denying responsibilities to adults for two years. Thomas McDonald Leader of the Republican Party |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We apparently failed to add the Proposal to this bill. We have created a new version to be voted upon. Our apologies for the mistake. Alexander Prince SHP Party Leader |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We believe that the current voting age is fine. In this way, the youth gets engaged with politics in an early stage in their life. We will therefore vote against the proposal. Joan d'Angel, EP Leader |
