Message | Mr Speaker, This budget will increase funding to 3 departments. First is a 2 billion Lira increase to Health and Social Services. It seems as though the act that will lower the professional retirement age to 65 will pass, which means more people will be drawing out their government pensions, and we feel 2 billion is sufficient to cover this. Secondly, we have an increase to Foreign Affairs, the reason for this increase is classified. Lastly, we are increasing defense spending by 10 billion Lira which will go towards the war effort in New Alduria. Once the conflict has completed, we will be restoring the defense budget back to 70 billion Lira. After these increases, Hutori is still left with a surplus of approximately 9.1 billion Lira. We believe this is a healthy surplus and would not suggest shrinking it further. I hope all members of this house will support this new budget. Message | Mr. Speaker, We are very concerned about the potential that cost overruns in the war effort will quickly diminish our surplus. However, we will vote for this bill if other parties in Parliament promise that they will consider an increase in taxes in the next budget should our surplus become a deficit. I am not asking for a definite yes, just consideration. Russell Selwyn MP for Sutton East Parliamentary Leader of the New Liberals |
