MessageMr. Speaker,

Farms have a great impact on their environment, large farms means more pollution to the surroundings, for this reason we want the local government to be able to break up farms when they get to large and limit the impact on the environment when they see fit. Local governments should be able to have say in this.

MessageMr Speaker,

I'm not quite sure I buy into that argument. If the same amount of farmland is farmed whether as a large number of small farms or a small number of large farms, surely pollution levels will be very similar? Again, farms that require more land for livestock will have a different environment footprint to small intensive farms growing crops or produce. We should allow farmers to craft their own policy and not force centralised or even devolved restrictions upon farm size.
