Bill: Removal of the National Salary Cap
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Conservative Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 4492
Description[?]:
We see it as very unnecessary for the government to decide what the maximum amount of money our citizens can earn. A minimum wage is, of course, necessary, but salary caps are a totally wrong and unneeded way of government intervention in employee salaries, so this bill will seek to soften the negative effects of maintaining a salary cap. This bill will end the practice of the government capping the salary of Kalistani citizens and instead allow labour unions and employers negotiate a salary cap. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's stance on a salary cap.
Old value:: There is a national maximum wage but local governments may enforce stricter salary caps.
Current: The government enforces a salary cap.
Proposed: Labour unions and organizations of employers negotiate a salary cap.

Message | Why though? Can anyone give us a good reason to have a salary cap, or are you just mindlessly following socialist policies? |

Message | Because without it, the pay of the Executive will increase, necessitating the decline of Worker’s wages |

Message | We do not understand why there should be unlimited wealth acquisition. Its not a "socialist" policy to hold that gross wealth inequality is a moral wrong. As much as we try, we are not able to fully divorce wealth from political power: if we were, there would be no liberal Parties in our country. As a result, wealth will always equal political power. Those who have more of it have more political power. So we want to ensure that no one person amasses too much of it. I should say: More than their fair share of it. If the NCP would like, we can amend the current salary cap, which I must admit is quite generous. Of we can remove the salary cap completely if we enforce a single standard salary for all work performed in Kalistan, whether it be the highest CEO or the most common worker, all are paid exactly the same, we would be in favor of that too. But allowing the already wealth to loot the economy for their benefit, and translate at least some of that into political influence, while workers don't have the same access to the levers of political power, this is something that I am sure no Party who cares more about the workers than the bosses will ever support. I can assure you the SP will never vote for that. We yield. -John Henry Bennots, Speaker of the Socialist Party of Kalistan |

Message | We will support this legislation. We absolutely believe in reducing the wealth gap, but an arbitrary salary cap does not solve the issue. |

Message | What if we changed it to where the employees negotiated a salary cap with the company? |

Message | We can agree to that. Our issue is not with a SOFTENING of the Salary Cap, but the REMOVAL. |

Message | We can support the amendment that the NCP has made to the bill. This change strengthens unions by guaranteeing them a seat at the table, and gives management an incentive to work with them.
