Bill: Lex Numonia de Rectione Locale

Details

Submitted by[?]: Factio Republicana Socialistica

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 4523

Description[?]:

Numonian Law on Local Government

Senators,

Last election the people have spoken, and they sent a loudly clear message: our attempt at centralizing governance in Selucia was a major and unpopular mistake. The voters have made it painfully obvious that they value the autonomy of their Provinces and municipalities and are suspicious of any increase in the powers of the central government. For that reason it is time to undo the disastrous reforms introduced by Senator Epimachus and return autonomy to the local government.

MessageSenators,

Although we welcome this change in the republicans' thought, we find very opportunistic and populist to propose these laws right after the bad result they have got in the last elections. Does this bill really represent the new thought of Factio Republicana, or it is just another bill to try to get more votes, and that will be changed once again after they win other elections?

MessageSenators,

There is a wide variety of thought and ideology within the Republican Party, gathered into four distinct caucuses. This diversity of opinion constitutes our party's strength and allows us to accurately track and respond to popular interest. One person's opportunism is another person's pragmatism, just like how what one sees as inflexible dogmatism someone else may see as unwavering commitment to high ideals and principles. Our party as a whole is agnostic on the matter of devolution and centralization; we are not and have never been committed centralists or federalists. Popular opinion at this moment is in favor of local autonomy, and thus we will do our duty and oblige.
