MessageMr Speaker,

We oppose all three articles of this bill. Regardless, this bill is an omnibus bill due to article 2 having absolutely nothing to do with the environment, and our party generally opposes omnibus bills on principle.

When it comes to Article 1, this will come at a huge cost to the Hutorian taxpayers. I'd ask where the NDWP plans on finding this money, but of course they've already shown that they would like to tax the living daylights out of Hutorians. There is absolutely no need for the government to wipe out the private sector of the forestry industry, as the government already owns all of the forests and sets strict regulations.

Our opposition to Article 2 is due to the fact that this article is simply an attack on science. Research into embryonic and fetal stem cells is important.

Our argument against Article 3 Mr. Speaker, is very similar to article 1. Taking the responsibility of waste removal for the entire nation into the federal government's hands will add a large cost to the federal budget. Also Mr. Speaker, local governments have handled this task successfully for centuries, we see no need to change that.

MessageMr speaker,

In order to maintain a set standard, we on this side of the house strongly believe it would be best for a governmental institution to deal with waste management. This would allow us to create more jobs, and therefore has economic potential as well as increasing efficiency. This is a fully costed proposal.

MessageMr Speaker,

Waste management is already a government institution, it is handled by LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. This notion that centralizing waste management here in Bekenial would create jobs is false, it would actually result in fewer jobs. Provinces and municipalities know their needs best. As for the suggestion that this proposal is "fully costed" is also false. Nowhere in this bill does it lay out the line-by-line costs of this proposal.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We could vote in favor of the two first article but we highly disagree with the third article. As the Prime Minister already said himself, research into steam cells are important and we can't allow this attack on science.
