Message | The government could support reforming the policy on polygamy if the opposition were to pursue this policy separately of the other provisions in this bill. The prospect of openly discriminating against homosexual people is something that we vehemently oppose and we could never enshrine it into legislation. Message | Honourable Minister Benli, We will pursue the policies separately. However, we are only observing the vehement religious values of the vast majority of the country in putting forward such reforms. We strongly urge the government to consider this fact. As it pertains to orphaned children, we in the Ahmadi majority do feel that the state should be selective and discriminatory in the adoption process. You cannot grow a seedling from dirt alone, for there must be water as well. With sincerity and respect, Aziz Gunes General-Secretary Birlik (Open letter) |

Message | Our government rejects the assertion that the vast majority of this country ascribes to the interpretation of Akim's will that you describe. Jakanians recognise the importance of compassion and mutual respect in the teaching of the Prophet Ahmad and these values are reflected in our treatment of homosexuals. We'll stand behind these policies. Aytunc Benli Minister of Education and Culture |
