Description[?]:
The thomasians stand by the belief of the Welfare state. Protection and care by the state from the cradle to the grave. This means that Education and Health especially should be available for free, for all, at the time of need and paid by taxes. The Lord Mordus provided us with our land and lives, that is are belief. For many of you it is the Judeo-Christian god who provided you with these things but even then our arguments remain the same. We are all equal and no one should be allowed to suffer in anyway because of the circumstances they were born into, we must help our fellow citizens in every way we can and all should have the chance of recieving equal education and health care. The Liberals in this assembly I have no doubt will argue that public health care will be more expensive and less efficient than the private system they think every one should be forced to use but this is not true. The market may fail and often will when it comes to health care promoting Monopolistic or an Oligopoly which will create inneficiency and higher costs for the consumers and higher costs for us the government as we are forced to raise our subsidies to low income earners. As an example of this I again move to the real world (for which I apologise). The UK which operates the largest public health care system uin the world last year spent 7.7% of GDP on health care. The United States which subsidises costs for the poor spent 15% of GDP on health care (statistics from the OECD). THis shows how a public system can be more economically viable as well as more socially responsible. I implore the members to be fair to all Mordusians and bring back the Welfare State! |

Message | If you want I could draw a graph showing how with Health and Education both with price inelastic demand it is actually not in a private providers best interest to reduce costs as this will decrease their revenue and profits. The public sector does not need to make a profit and would want to decrease costs as lower costs and taxes are generally a vote winner. |

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections. |
