Message | Mr. Speaker The legal age in Hutori 16, it is at that point that Hutorian can drink, gamble and join the Commonwealth's Armed Forces. Why is the Education age being changed to 18 compared to keeping it at 16? Erik Bauckman Official Opposition Critic for Education & Culture Member of Parliament for Bekenial Riverside |

Message | Mr Speaker, Do the Liberals insist on dedicating themselves to pure contrarianism? People educated to the age of 18 are likely to possess more skills which will prepare them for the world beyond education. The examples you gave have nothing to do with the age at which education should stop being compulsory. Furthermore we Greens have wanted to take steps against gambling and militarism, so those examples are even more farcically irrelevant. Message | Mr. Speaker I believe the term the Member for Acton Cambridge is looking for, is being an effective Opposition. Regardless of whether legislation is being brought forward by the Government or other Opposition Parties. We want to know the logic behind legislation to ensure it's being brought forward in a careful and considered way, not to make a political point. Message | Mr Speaker, Certain persons do indeed want to make a political point. I would rather there was a degree of honesty about this matter. The argument against this legislation is that 'we allow 16 year olds to make other poor life choices, why shouldn't we allow them to make this one', and I once again have to say I don't see the argument as anything other than farcical.
