Bill: Religious choice: Withdraw from the Church of Keymon Treaty
Details
Submitted by[?]: Duchy's People's Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2225
Description[?]:
This has been an aim of the DPP for many years now and we feel that it is about time something is done. We dont oppose the theory behind this treaty, that religion in keymon is protected, but we oppose the fact that the treaty only allows for religion to head down the one path. The path of fanatics. The CD have promised to review this treaty but so far we have seen no sign of any such reviewal. Therefore we propose that Keymon withdraw from this treaty and then, once a new cabinet has been elected, draw up a new treaty which allows room for reform within religion. |

Message | "As we have said - over and over - we will review this treaty when someone, anyone, proposes an alternative. Show us the new treaty first. If it is acceptable, we will withdraw from the old treaty immediately." -- Vivanne Dynamis, acting Director General |

Message | "Furthermore, the DPP mischaracterises the treaty. We do not allow for only one religion. All religions are protected. There is a national religion, but it is completely voluntary. We have a national animal, but we don't force people to own one. They can own any animal or no animal. We have a national sport, but we don't force people to play. They can play any sport or no sport. And we have a national religion - the Church of Keymon - but we don't force people to participate. They can have any religion or no religion. Please stick to the facts." -- Vivanne Dynamis, acting Director General |

Message | we cannot propose a treaty as we are not involved in the foreign affairs ministry, this is not a dig at the CD. We just want to be able to actually have a say on religion, but this treaty stops us from doing so. |

Message | this is not about whether or not the national reigion is appropiate , it is about parties having a say in religion |

Message | Religion has no part in an efficient economy, this treaty is standing in the way of a prosperous Keymon. We do not seek to ban religion, nor would we wish to take such choices out of the hands of the people. However, we certainly do not agree with promoting religion, which this treaty obviously does.... |

Message | As an aside, we consider all parties that do not support withdrawl from this treaty to be traitors to the founding principles of Keymon. That being freedom of choice, and economic prosperity... |

Message | "The comments from the KRP are amusing considering that the parties chiefly rallying behind removing this treaty are all socialists or communists. The parties vigorously opposing withdrawing from this treaty are all free-market promoters of economic liberty. Whose side is the KRP on? Hollow words indeed for a party to argue for freedom, choice, and prosperity while standing shoulder-to-shoulder with socialists. I am not a traitor and I take great umbrage at any accusation otherwise. Pistols or swords, minister?" -- Sonny McCormick |

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action. |
