Bill: Redistribution of the Wealth: Step 1 (Re-examined)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Duchy's People's Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2225
Description[?]:
This bill is the first step of the DPP's Redistribution of the Wealth Campaign (RoWC). This first step involves tax admendments which should bring more money into the nation, through taxing corporations, and lead to a rise in standards of living, making luxuries more available. We know that there will be parties in Keymon who will immediately oppose any taxes on corporations, but our argument is that the public all have to pay taxes, so why not corporations. The inclusion of a cut on luxury sales tax is to demonstrate that this is not just beneficial to socialists but to everyone in keymon. |

Message | "It may be a waste of breath to constantly repeat this . . . but a 10% tax on corporations does not generate revenue! I'll say it again, because you keep ignoring it. It does not generate revenue! Corporations in Keymon make almost no profit. Taxing what little profit they make raises no significant revenue for the government for social programs on the one hand, and drives corporations out of Keymon on the other hand. Why do you keep proposing this when you know both of those things are true? "Secondly, the luxury tax applies to everyone - people, corporations, anyone. It is one of the strongest source of revenue in the duchy. Lower it, and we will have to cut social programs, because raising the corporate tax just won't balance the books. If that's what you want, then I encourage you to support this bill." -- Corrine Rimaldo, Minister of Foreign Affairs |

Message | For 2, we agree with the CDs. More rich people will be buying luxury goods, so you want to lower the tax for them? Think logically please. |

Message | We have changed our proposal on tax of luxury sales thanks to input from the RSM and CD. We have also added a proposal to introduce a tax on basic products. We hope that parties will offer feedback on whether or not they agree with this inclusion and if they feel that the level of tax proposed is the most appropiate. |

Message | "Not only are you adding a harmful and worthless corporate tax, but you want to tax _food_? We have nothing else to add to this discussion. Propose the bill already, so the parties that do not agree with taxing food and clothes can vote against it." -- Corrine Rimaldo, Minister of Foreign Affairs |

Message | We would prefer, and shall seek parity on the sales tax for luxury and normal items, but shall support this bill none-the-less for its economic sense... |

Message | We now disagree with article 2. You cannot impose tax on non-luxury goods, then it harms the poorest most. Increase luxury tax, drop the tax on necessities. |
