Bill: RP: Miners vote 99-1 to strike

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 5006

Description[?]:

FORT WILLIAM, ORANGE — The Luthorian Federation of Miners' Associations has voted to strike following the breakdown in negotiations with the Mining Industry Association employers' organisation, 3,231,482 to 34,030 and all branches in favour. The prime minister had appealed to LFMA president Chelwin Brailsford to resume talks, but by all accounts a hastily-arranged meeting between the two men quickly descended into a shouting match, with Mr Brailsford accusing Sir Eghard of having "betrayed the movement" and threatening to switch his union's support to the Communists.

A spokesman for the prime minister said the government would "pursue an equitable resolution" to the dispute, and in the meantime work to "protect the national interest." With a negligible coal stockpile and the nation almost singularly dependent on the fuel, it seems as though the miners' victory is almost guaranteed and that the government will be forced to compel the Mining Industry Association to surrender. A spokesman for the Mining Industry Association said that the union had rejected "perfectly reasonable proposals" offered by employers, and was now seeking to "terrorise the nation into submission in the middle of winter."

MessageIn an emergency meeting of the Democratic Society, there was an close vote on collaboration with the government on the matter. Conservative challenger Henry Markington announced his support for collaboration, stating “We can’t leave Luthori hanging while she (referring to Secretary Lisa Jones) has a shouting battle with Eghard Adderley. I’m prepared to work with whoever’s there to resolve this fuel crisis, and no progressive can stop me.”

This was seen as a direct mutiny against the progressive leadership, who had relied on support from centrists to prevent collaboration. However, several conservatives have already announced their intention to back the government. Industry Spokesperson Jodie Hamm, who was one of Lisa Jones’ key allies and a progressive, has also agreed to help in resolution, but “only just that”.

MessageMr. President,
Dear colleagues,
Mr. Adderley's government is sinking deeper and deeper into incompetence and total disorder. With his socialist policies, this extremist Prime Minister only succeeded in exacerbating social tensions. These poor miners are certainly not benefiting from the government's left-wing policies that are making them poorer.
We feel very sorry for these miners who have no choice but to demonstrate against these disastrous policies.
The government should enact a tax cut for all large companies, which will help boost economic growth.

John Clifton-Brown, leader of the Liberal parliamentary group.

MessageIn response to the Hon. Clifton-Brown, I have analysed statistics published by the Ministry of Finance and have estimated that the government can only lower corporate taxes by 3.35% at the current spending levels to fall into deficit. Therefore, without significant decreases in spending (namely the Defence and HoG areas) debt cannot be avoided in the case of a corporate tax decrease.

Arthur Peter, Spokesperson on Finance and the Budget

Our party apologises for the thousands if not millions of affected people and would like the government to ration the remaining coal stockpile as to avoid a race to the bottom where the rich would claim all the fuel. We would also like to ask the government to begin importing fuel at a higher level from our global trading partners until the crisis is solved.

Random fact: Moderation will not accept Cultural Protocol updates which introduce, on a significant scale, cultures which are likely to be insufficiently accessible to players. In particular, for all significant cultures in Particracy, it should be easy for players to access and use online resources to assist with language translation and the generation of character names. Moderation reserves the right to amend Cultural Protocols which are deemed to have introduced significant cultures that are not sufficiently accessible and which are not being actively role-played with.
