Description[?]:

Simon Sambrook, former president and founder of the Liberal Party, died from a heart attack on August 22, 5008.
This came as a shock for the supporters of the Liberal Party. His funerals will be organised in two weeks.

Known for his oratory skills, Sambrook founded the Liberal Party in 4979 and entered parliament in 4980. He became known throughout the nation for his speeches on freedom and prosperity when the country was ruled by Alf Brewer and Greenwood-Kimbrough. His party was very successful in 4985 and Sambrook became prime minister from 4985 to 4988. His government was known for its progressive reforms.
Although he was soon thrown into opposition, the Liberal Party's vote continued to grow.
From December 4991 to December 4997, he became prime minister and his popularity soared. Progressive reforms (permitting pornography and prostitution, limiting the powers of the police) made him a very popular head of state. In 4994, his party won 36.88% of the votes but without a majority in parliament.
The success of the Liberal Party led to the total privatization of the health care system in all but one duchy, since this was devolved to the duchies at that time.
As a result, the popularity of the Liberal Party fell sharply and Simon Sambrook was voted out of office.
However, he remained very popular until his death in 5008, as he is not seen as the instigator of the ducal reforms. At his death, a poll indicated that 61% of Luthorians had a favorable opinion of the character, 35% an unfavorable opinion and 4% had no opinion.
