Message | Mr. Speaker, We aren't entirely clear on how making charter schools nonprofit, by itself, ensures a quality education. Would the CLP be willing to explain this to us? |

Message | Mr Speaker, We are of the opinion that for profit schools may not always put the best interests of their students first and foremost since for profit institutions, by their very nature as the label implies, prioritize monetary gain over anything else. The CLP finds this especially concerning considering that these schools are funded publicly since nothing much is stopping these schools for providing the bare minimum standard of education, according to our national curriculum if our other bill regarding the curriculum manages to pass, and using the rest of these funds not to provide a high quality education but towards a means of profit. We believe that the best move to mitigate this from happening is to require that charter schools be non-profit and make them prioritize the education of their students rather than prioritize their bottom line. |
